Kostas Manolas (Greece):With the transfer window about to slam shut, Arsenal’s hunt for a new centre-back appears to be heating up. But can they drag a deal across the line before its too late?

Arsenal fans will certainly have their fingers crossed. It’s not like there aren’t quality options out there who would jump at the opportunity for a move to a top Premier League club.

This brings me to Arsenal’s interest in Greek defender Kostas Manolas. Is he the answer to all their defensive woes?

Over the last two-or-three weeks Kosta Manolas has been regularly linked with a move to The Emirates. Now The Metro claim that Arsenal’s move has hit a ‘stumbling block’, as the club has been unable to agree personal terms with the Greek international.

With time running out, the situation appears to be growing more and more desperate.

It’s an interesting situation. The Olympiakos star is thought to be available for as little as £8m. That’s a good fee for a player who’s reputation has risen dramatically over the last 12 months. It’s also well within Arsenal’s financial wheelhouse – let’s not forget that they sold Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona for £15m a dew weeks back.

Given that Arsenal are looking to bring the player in for a relatively small fee, are we really willing to believe that he is holding out for a massive salary? Surely he’d jump at the opportunity to play for a club like Arsenal.

To complicate matters further, The Metro claim that Roma are also thought to be interested in Kosta Manolas. If The Gunners uhm and ahh, they could end up missing out on a top player.

With the transfer window about to slam shut, surely it’s time for Arsene Wenger to bite the bullet? If he’s identified Kostas Manolas as the player he wants Arsenal to sign, then surely it’s time to cough up the cash required to close the deal. The Gunners just can’t afford to sit on their laurels here.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal look to wrap up this deal for Kostas Manolas?

    Fool.

    He signed for A.S. Roma.

Try and do some basic research, it’s kinda required of the position.
