Can Arsenal FINALLY wrap up this mammoth £24.5m deal?

William Carvalho (Sporing Lisbon)Arsenal’s search for a swanky new defensive midfielder has seen them get linked to a wealth of different options. In truth, however, the same names keep popping up again and again.

Arsene Wenger seems to have a thing for Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira and Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho. Where there’s smoke there’s fire, right? Surely there has to be a reason why these three names keep coming up?

Whilst most fans have been salivating over the potential arrival of Sami Khedira, I’d argue that William Carvalho actually provides a better fit.

Sami Khedira isn’t a defensive midfielder in the classical sense. Sure he’s tall and powerful, but he’s also adventurous and loves to get forward and support attacks. During Germany’s 7-1 routing of Brazil during the World Cup, it was Khedira who was providing all the service for his team-mates.

His willingness to get forward could create gaps in Arsenal’s defense. Madrid aren’t exactly renowned for their defensive solidarity, are they?

Carvalho, on the other hand, is a disciplined, organised individual. He’s athletic and stocky and he’s difficult to wrench off of the ball. He sits in front of the back-four and mops up anything that comes even remotely close to him. Isn’t that exactly what The Gunners need at this moment in time?

With Mikel Arteta out injured and Mathieu Flamini getting on in years, bringing in a player like William Carvalho just looks like a smart move.

The Metro recently ran an article claiming that Sporting Lisbon are willing to do a deal for William Carvalho for as little as £24.5m, as long as Arsenal chuck in a player as part of the deal. Serge Gnabry and Yaya Sanogo are two players who could go in the other direction if The Gunners manage to agree terms.

Carvalho is only 22-years-old and he’s got limited experience at the top level, so it’s somewhat surprising that he’s got such a large price-tag. If Arsene Wenger really is interested, negotiations are likely to be tough.

But given how pressing Arsenal’s need is, maybe it’s time to bite the bullet?

What’s your take? Should Arsenal try and wrap up a deal for William Carvalho?

Get William as quick as possible. Arsenal team lack the power holding medflider for a long time. Since the departure of Patrick Veira no one even atera is not good.

well if am to say, i will like arsene wenger going in for calvaho cos he x still young nd also actually we need someone hu will really help out our defenders at dat bak cos i will say our middle x good but our defense need help, it x only when the defense is strong that the keepers action will be seen. So even if it is seling out some players 2 get him better nd also we need a strong striker not giroud who act like a sissy.

Let arsenal get him. He also young with him inthe next 5 years we won’t be talking about a Dm. He is in same quality with pogba. He is the next Vieira.

I agree that William Carvalho is the perfect type of player. A sort of player in the Gilberto/Viera/Song stable, he has raw power and is the exact Alpha Male powerhouse we need. He is a real heavyweight style player. C’mon Wenger he could be the one man to let us play freely and with confidence.

Yes it may be a good job well done by prof.but the main problem is, will wenger splash all that amount to bring the most talented player to emirates? I really doubt but if it’s true then the likes of flamini and arteta may rest. wenger please bring in falcao to help sanchez
