‘We have to be open’: Could Liverpool finally close this deal?

Wilfried BonyWhilst I’m not sure that Liverpool fans were ever all that enthused about the prospect of signing Loic Remy, they’ll have been disappointed to see the deal fall through. Having just sold Luis Suarez, The Reds are in dire need of some new attacking talent. Remy could have been just the ticket.

But if Loic Remy failed his medical then it’s for the best. It’s time for The Reds to move on and find another option (or two).

This brings me to The Reds interest in long-term transfer target, Wilfried Bony. According to The Metro, his club, Swansea City are ready and willing to do business with the right club. Check out these quotes from The Swans chairman, Huw Jenkins:

‘Wilfried Bony is a fantastic professional. If a top Champions League club comes in, and puts the right offer on the table, then of course we will speak to him. There are no issues with Bony. He’s a great guy to have around the club. As much as we want players to stay with us for a number of years, we have to be open.’

I wonder if this news has reached Brendan Rodger’s ears. The Reds are currently in a position where they’re able to offer Bony Champions League football. Maybe the time’s right to swoop in and try and make a deal happen?

Whilst Wilfried Bony is no Luis Suarez (who is?), he’s an excellent option. His goal-scoring form during his first season on English soil was quite spectacular. He made 48 appearances for The Swans last year and managed to find the back of the net 25 times.

He’s not the paciest striker in the world and he’s not the most technically gifted, but he knows how to position himself and he’s strong in the air.

If Brendan Rodgers is able to call upon both Daniel Sturridge and Wilfried Bony, The Reds shouldn’t struggle for goals next season. Whether it would be enough to guide them to silverware remains to be seen.

What’s your take? Could Wilfried Bony fire The Reds to Premier League glory?
