Surely this £20m ace is the answer to Arsenal’s striking woes?

Bony1I’d argue that Arsenal were short of options before Olivier Giroud picked up an injury. Now the problem’s just exacerbated. Luckily, Arsene Wenger has an opportunity to act.

Last season Arsenal spent much of their time praying that Olivier Giroud didn’t get injured. Its a relief, therefore, that he’s picked up an injury whilst there’s still time to fix the situation in the transfer market. Perhaps ‘relief’ is a strong word, in this context, but you know what I’m getting at.

Unfortunately, there just aren’t that many options available at this stage of the transfer market. Arsene Wenger may have to plumb the depths to find a fresh recruit.

But there is one good option that I’m surprised hasn’t switched clubs yet. In my opinion, making a move for Swansea City’s swashbuckling centre-forward, Wilfried Bony, is now a no brainer for Arsenal.

He won’t come cheap – The Metro suggest that he could cost Arsenal as much as £20m – but given how few good options are out there, Arsene Wenger would be foolish to pass the opportunity up.

Quality rarely comes cheap, but at least Wilfried Bony would arrive at The Emirates with a season’s worth of Premier League action behind him. What’s more, he’d arrive having already proved that he’s capable of scoring a lot of goals.

Last year he scored 25. Who’s to say he can’t do better this time round? Especially if he’s playing in front of the likes of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla.

It also strikes me that he’ll fit neatly into this Arsenal system. Like Giroud, he’s strong in the air, he’s physical and he’s got great touch and control. But it’s his positioning that makes him stand out. This could help him to be even more successful than Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman could even struggle to break back into the first team.

It’s clear that Arsenal needs to act. Let’s just hope he opts for a quality option.

What’s your take? Is Wilfried Bony the right choice for The Gunners?
