Arsenal chasing Premier League duo: which one should they sign?

Danny Welbeck Despite what Arsene Wenger seems to think, The Gunners aren’t exactly spoiled for choice upfront. Beyond Olivier Giroud, who do they really have that they can rely on?

Yaya Sanogo is still too young, too raw and inexperienced. Yes, he scored four goals against Benfica during a pre-season friendly, but his inability to affect competitive games is a little worrying.

Who else do The Gunners have? Alexis Sanchez? Theo Walcott? Lukas Podolski? By the time this article gets published Lukas Podolski may already have been moved on. What’s more, it strikes me that all three of these footballers are most effective when deployed down the flanks.

Don’t Arsenal really need another out-and-out striker? Isn’t that what this squad is lacking?

According to The Metro, The Gunners are considering going back into the transfer market, as a result of fears concerning Olivier Giroud’s fitness. That’s a smart move, but they haven’t left themselves with much time to act. The transfer window is soon to slam shut.

According to the aforementioned source, The Gunners are weighing up potential moves for Queens Park Rangers’ Loic Remy and for Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck. Neither represent a particularly exciting option, but Arsenal haven’t given themselves enough time to be flexible.

Given that Liverpool had a chance to sign Loic Remy and rejected him, I think it’s safe to rule him out. If he’s not good enough for The Reds, he’s unlikely to be good enough for The Gunners.

Danny Welbeck, on the other hand, looks like a player who’s in need of a change of scenery. With Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie running the show at Old Trafford, he’s unlikely to get too much game time.

At The Emirates, however, he may be able to secure a regular first team berth, if he’s able to quickly find his feet.

Whilst his goal-scoring record at Manchester United isn’t all that impressive, he has been a bit-part player throughout his career. I’d be interested to see what he could contribute were he to be given the full backing of his coach.

The Mirror claim that Danny Welbeck could be available for £15m. Didn’t Arsenal just recieve a similar figure for selling Thomas Vermaelen? Doesn’t this strike you as a good match?

What’s your take? Would you rather Arsenal sign Danny Welbeck or Loic Remy?
