Should Liverpool really be ‘confident’ of signing Radamel Falcao?

Radamel Falcao 1A few days back, Liverpool picked up a link to one of the biggest football stars in the world. In fact, The Metro claimed that The Reds were ‘confident’ of agreeing a deal with Monaco for their superstar striker, Radamel Falcao. The fact that this story even exists is tangible evidence of how far The Reds have come over the last 12 months.

They’re now a club that’s capable of competing against the biggest clubs in the world, for the best players in the world. That’s a very exciting position to be in.

As it happens, it’s out of necessity. The Reds just sold Luis Suarez, who was their talisman, their main source of goals and their main source of inspiration. It strikes me that interest in players like Radamel Falcao is the next logical step for The Reds.

After a single season in Ligue 1 (where he spent most of his time injured), Falcao already seems to be ready to move on. Both Real Madrid and Manchester City have been linked with moves for the Colombian centre-forward. Given the financial power of both clubs, this news hardly comes as a surprise. Liverpool’s interest, on the other hand, is a bit of a shock.

Still, fans won’t be complaining. If The Reds can get their hands on Radamel Falcao, Suarez will soon be forgotten. His goal-scoring record more or less speaks for itself.

In 87 appearances for FC Porto, he scored 72 goals. In 91 appearances for Atletico Madrid, he scored 70 goals. At Monaco, he has found the back of the net 11 times in 19 games. He truly is an unstoppable force.

The Metro quote Italian journalist Mina Rzouki, who claims that The Reds have ‘held positive negotiations over Falcao’ and are ‘hopeful’ of completing a deal. Liverpool are on the brink of something massive here.

I won’t believe it until I see it up on The Reds’ official site, but it’s hard not to get excited nonetheless.

What’s your take? Where does Radamel Falcao’s future lie? Could The Reds really be in the running to sign him?

“If The Reds can get their hands on Radamel Falcao, Suarez will soon be forgotten.” What a crock. Suarez is the best player I’ve seen at Liverpool for about 25 years – he won’t be replaced or forgotton.

Liverpool is one of the largest clubs in the world. The club attracts more attention than Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. Manchester United and Liverpool rival each other on a global scale. I am talking about from a media perspective. I was reading an article on a MCFC forum where tabloid journalists were talking about how Liverpool articles get more views, clicks, etc than the other clubs listed above. Now that Liverpool has owners that are willing to spend, they will be able to compete at the highest levels. It may not be oil money and they won’t stupidly spend, but now the club has enough backing to get who they need.
