Having lost Luis Suarez this summer, The Reds are in desperate need of some attacking inspiration.
Whilst Daniel Sturridge looks ready to make a step up, Liverpool have just lost their talisman and their main source of goals. To think that this won’t have a major effect on the club’s chances of silverware is foolish.
Let’s just hope that Brendan Rodgers is preparing to bring somebody else in.
We do know that he’s considering other options. After all, he came remarkably close to signing Loic Remy earlier this summer. If the Frenchman hadn’t failed his medical, he’d currently be a Liverpool player.
But now that a move for Remy has been ruled out, it’s time to look at other options. This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Samuel Eto’o is a ‘shock name’ on Rodger’s transfer wish-list. The word ‘shock’, is apt.
I think it’s fair to say to say that Liverpool fans haven’t taken kindly to this rumour. Social media has been all ablaze with outrage.
But would this really be such a bad move for The Reds? If Rodgers can’t find a decent long-term option at the moment, bringing in a stop-gap measure like Eto’o could be a smart move.
At 33-years-old, the Cameroonian international offers absolutely no long-term potential. Despite this, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that he could do a job for another season or two.
His career-long goal-scoring record more or less speaks for itself. Even at Chelsea last year (a club notorious for curtailing striker’s effectiveness) he managed to score 12 goals in 34 appearances. He also chipped in with 6 assists.
If he can stay fit, there’s a good chance that he’d do even better in his second season playing in the Premier League. With The Mirror claiming that Liverpool have already opened ‘talks’ with his representatives, perhaps we shouldn’t get too upset if this deal does eventually go through.
The more the merrier.

Samuel Eto’o is one of the most successful and accomplished football players on Earth. He has very little to prove as to his contributions in a club. He is more than just an ordinary player.
