Is it time for Arsenal to give up on this £23m signing?

KhediraAt one point a few weeks back, The Gunners looked like they were pretty close to signing Real Madrid’s defensive ace, Sami Khedira. Then things went quiet on that front and Arsenal started to get linked to other options: William Carvalho, Morgan Schneiderlin, Joshua Guilavogui, etc. Whilst these are all good footballers, none of them would make quite as big a splash as the German.

Doubtless, Arsenal fans will be disappointed that their club seems to have lost interest in Sami Khedira. Having seen the way that he helped the Germans to annihilate Brazil at their own World Cup, there’s every reason to believe that he could be an important signing for Arsenal – one that helps to take them to the next level.

Luckily, there’s no reason for The Gunners to give up. Not just yet anyway. As The Metro note, Sami Khedira has turned down ‘not one but two’ new contract offers from Real Madrid. Either he’s holding out for a massive pay-rise, or he’s looking for a move away from The Bernabeu. Either way The Gunners could be set to profit, if they play the situation right.

The Metro also claim that Arsenal’s Sami Khedira ‘transfer saga’ is not set to be ‘concluded any time soon’. That’s as maybe, but one way or another, it’ll be resolved come the end of the month and the close of the transfer window. Indeed. with Khedira now back in training at Real Madrid and his manager looking to make plans for the coming season, perhaps things will be able to move a little quicker.

Not so long ago, The Sun were reporting that Arsenal were on the verge of a £23m deal. If he’s available at this price (and his wages aren’t as extortionate as have been suggested in the press), The Gunners would be foolish not to snap him up.

Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger doesn’t miss out on this one. Failure in the transfer market could come to define Arsenal’s season.

What’s your take? Can The Gunners still sign Sami Khedira? Should they be looking at other players?
