Clement Grenier (Lyon)Despite having a wealth of talented midfielders, The Gunners can’t seem to stop picking up links to new options. The Press just can’t seem to help themselves.

According to The Mirror, The Gunners ‘have added French midfielder Clement Grenier’ to their summer transfer wishlist. Is this evidence that Arsene Wenger has his priorities all wrong, or would Grenier make for a decent addition to Arsenal’s squad?

First things first: Arsene Wenger’s main priority this summer should be signing a world-class centre-forward. They simply can’t afford to go another season with only Olivier Giroud playing alone upfront. Adding a couple more options in this department could help The Gunners to compete on multiple fronts and bring in more silverware.

But bringing in another midfielder could also be sensible. Maybe it’s their playing style, their training regime, or their backroom staff, but The Gunners are a team who can’t seem to avoid picking up injuries. Last season important players like Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil spent long periods out of the game.

With this in mind, it’s easy to see why Arsene Wenger might be interested in signing another midfielder. He clearly feels that he’s short an option or two here and that’s why he brought Kim Kallstrom in on loan last January. Now he’s after a permanent addition to his midfield.

Clement Grenier certainly looks like a good choice. The 23-year-old made 41 appearances for Lyon last season, scored 7 goals and made 8 assists. When you compare these statistics to one of Arsenal’s current options, Jack Wilshere (35 appearances, 5 goals and 5 assists), it’s clear enough that Grenier is good enough to potentially break into Wenger’s first team.

He’s certainly got the technical ability that Arsene Wenger seems to love his players to have. What’s more, the aforementioned source claims that Grenier could be available for as little as £7.5m. That’s a bargain price for a top player.

If he really is available for that kind of money, it would be foolish to miss out. Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger is working on bringing in a striker too.

What’s your take? Do Arsenal really need to sign Clement Grenier?
