Should Liverpool make this £40m big-money signing?

Karim Benzema (France)Having sold Luis Suarez for a mammoth fee (£75m), Brendan Rodgers has gone the way of Spurs last summer, when Andre Villas-Boas sold Gareth Bale. Rather than bringing in one-or-two top quality options, he’s brought in a slew of decent, if not mind-blowing footballers, who could potentially do a job at Anfield.

Liverpool fans will hope that things work out differently for them than it did for Tottenham. But I can’t help but feel that The Reds failure to make a big, big signing could come back to bite them on the ass. They need a player that fans can rally around. They need a player that creates belief and gets his team-mates to up their collective games.

Take Mesut Ozil for instance. The German may not have made quite as much on-pitch impact as he’d have liked last season, but there’s no doubt that he was a major reason why Arsenal got back to winning ways with a victory in the FA Cup.

I’m not asking for another Luis Suarez type. I’d just like to see Brendan Rodgers exercise some bravery by bringing in a big money option.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that The Reds are in the market for Real Madrid star Karim Benzema. The French forward could prove to be just the ticket. Is he the big signing that fans are clamouring for?

He certainly has a big price-tag. According to the source, the Frenchman would cost £40m and would require £200k-a-week in wages. Quality doesn’t come cheap, does it?

But look at Benzema’s goal-scoring record: in 235 appearances for Madrid, he has found the back of the net 111 times. He’s got major experience at every level of the game and he’s only 26-years-old. He’s no Luis Suarez, but he’s a damn good alternative.

Just imagine Karim Benzema lining up along Daniel Sturridge next season. Maybe that’s worth spending £40m on?

What’s your take? Should The Reds be looking for a marquee signing? Is Karim Benzema the right choice?

    Overrated useless player

  • edaw says:

Absolutely NOT. He doesn’t want to be a part of Liverpool. We shouldn’t go for someone who think he’s bigger than the club. For such a good player he is, he’s not that great IMO. And I think Rodgers doesn’t want him too. You’ll see Rodgers’ persistence to sign his top priority player: Lallana, Lovren, Markovic. So, I’ll just wait and believe in Rodgers’ signings.

we have no need to buy him it would be a waste of money i agree we need to buy a top player and think the money would be better spent on reus or vidal. then concentrate on our defence

  • charles amadi says:

i think we need him.sighning him is a good news to all liverpool fans

I don’t see that Benzima could offer any more than what we have already. Sturridge is an exceptional striker and along with Lambert, who will give us another option, we have strikers covered. Liverpool operate with a lone striker and three advance attacking midfielders – we have those positions covered now. I see that the £40m quoted would be best used strengthening defensive areas.

He’s a bench warmer demanding for Suarez type of wages……damn no in LFC world.

  • nyero innohypia says:

Not the premiere league kind player he will be a flop like .don’t bring him

  • SYD says:

you can dream about players like Benzema – Sanchez or Falcaoand the rest but the problem is:
woh’s on earth with a graine of ambition is going to join a dead futbal club with a manager with very limited knowledge of modern footbal like BR??
Last season results was beacuse of Suarez’s goals &assists and his presence all together.
this time without him you are going back to mid table , where you are belong.
