KhediraAs if signing Alexis Sanchez wasn’t exciting enough, The Gunners continue to get linked to a number of impressive prospects. It certainly looks like an exciting time to be an Arsenal fan.

We are used to Arsene Wenger uhming and ahhing, but this summer things seem to be different. The club seems to have everything in place that it needs to secure success. Those bumper commercial deals that The Gunners have been signing left, right and centre over the last couple of years now seem to be paying off.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Arsenal are now trying to wrap up a deal for Real Madrid’s star holding midfielder, Sami Khedira. This strikes me as good news and another positive step forward for the club.

Unfortunately (for Arsenal at least), Sami Khedira won’t come cheap. The source claims that even though Khedira only has a year left on his Madrid contract, they’re holding out for at least £20m for the German star. What’s more, the player himself would demand at least £120k-a-week in order to agree a move to The Emirates.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Arsene Wenger is willing to cough up. There’s a potential that his bargain hunting instincts could come to the fore once again here. Madrid won’t want him to leave on a free next year and may be willing to negotiate. It’s up to Wenger and co. to try and force their price down.

Bringing in Khedira looks like a very smart move indeed. With Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta both getting on in years, The Gunners could benefit from adding another talented holding midfielder to their squad. What’s more, his arrival could help to motivate Mesut Ozil, who is Khedira’s friend and international team-member.

At 27-years-old, Sami Khedira is probably just about to enter his peak form as a footballer. His performance against Brazil in the World Cup semi-finals showed that he’s now on the verge. Let’s hope that Wenger is ready to make a move.

What’s your take? Would Sami Khedira fit in nicely at The Emirates?
