Have Arsenal made an ‘offer’ for this £32m star?

One of the most exciting players that Arsenal have been linked to this summer, is Barcelona’s world-class striker/winger, Alexis Sanchez.

Theo Walcott spent a long time on the sidelines last season and The Gunners struggled to replace his pace and threat down the wings. Bringing in somebody with Sanchez’s level of ability could prove to be an Arsene Wenger masterstroke.

But it won’t be an easy deal to close. In fact, The Star recently ran an article suggesting that Barcelona might be prepared to sell if they were offered £32m for Sanchez. That would make him Arsenal’s second most expensive signing of all time (behind Mesut Ozil, who cost them £42m).

Apparently Barcelona consider Sanchez to be worth £5m more than another ex-player, Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard moved to Chelsea early on this summer for a fee of around £27m.

The good news for Arsenal is that Barcelona look like their willing to mull over offers for their talented Chilean winger. Check out these quotes from  Barca’s sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta:

“Regarding the future of Alexis Sanchez, there have been offers for the player. But I do not know how it will all end – we are looking for a solution which will be best for everyone.

“Pedro, however, is not transferable. I count on Pedro for the future.” (Source: The Mirror)

I left that last part in, because it demonstrates Barcelona’s contrasting attitudes. Whilst they’re willing to consider offers for Sanchez, they’re playing hard-ball when it comes to Pedro. In other words, the door is wide open for The Gunners to swoop in and get their man.

Whether Arsene Wenger is willing to spend big again this summer remains to be seen, but there’s little doubt that Sanchez would make for an excellent addition to this Arsenal squad.

He’s got goals (21 last season), he chips in with a lot of assists (17 last season), he’s got pace and he’s got technique. What more could you ask for? Make it happen Arsene!
