Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Netherlands)With Arsenal on the hunt for a world-class centre forward this season, they’ve already been linked to just about every option under the sun. If the press are to be believed, Arsene Wenger will have the pick of the litter this summer.

The Gunners have even started to pick up links to long-term transfer target, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. But would the Dutch sharpshooter be just what Arsenal need, or should they be considering other options?

The reason that Huntelaar has re-entered the conversation is because his future at his current club, Schalke 04, is now uncertain. He’s currently negotiating with the Bundesliga over a new deal, but it’s not clear whether any progress has been made. Check out these quotes from the player himself.

‘The negotiations with the club have been running for some time. In the holidays I do not want anyone bothering me. After the holidays I’ll speak further with Schalke. This is soon enough. I am now speaking with my manager and above the interests of the club. I concentrate on the World Cup.’ (Source: The Mirror)

Despite injury problems last year, Huntelaar has been in fine form. He made 21 appearances for Schalke and scored 14 goals. The season before that he found the back of the net 16 times in 35 games. Back in 2011/12, he scored an incredible 48 goals in a single season. The man is an unstoppable goal-scoring force.

He’s also been impressive in this year’s World Cup, coming off the bench against Mexico to make a goal and score a goal for Holland.

The only potential issue with this signing is that Huntelaar is now 30-years-old. He’s no spring chicken and he’s not a long-term option for The Gunners. As a stop-gap signing, however, he could prove to be a masterstroke.

If Arsene Wenger signed both Klaas Jan-Huntelaar and a younger option (Mario Balotelli for instance?) then The Gunners would be extremely well set for future success. Let’s just hope he’s ready and willing to bring in more than one option this summer.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal move in for this g0al-scoring superstar? Would Klaas Jan-Huntelaar make a mark in the Premier League?
