Are Arsenal right to target this £23.8m La Liga star?

Sami Khedira (Germany)Whilst Arsenal fans will be disappointed that their club didn’t seal a title victory last season, they did manage to pick up their first piece of silverware in nine years. That strikes me as a pretty significant step in the right direction for The Gunners.

The fact that they spent longer on top of the Premier League table than any other side is also promising. It’s now clear that The Gunners are two-or-three signings away from having a squad that’s capable of challenging on multiple fronts next year.

Whether Arsene Wenger is willing to loosen the purse strings this summer remains to be seen. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if he were to bring in a centre-forward, a reserve goalkeeper and a right back this summer. He may also consider bringing in a defensive midfielder.

Whilst his squad is currently jam-packed with attacking-minded midfielders, The Gunners current defensive options, Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta leave something to be desired. Both are getting on in years and both lack genuine physical presence.

Perhaps this is why The Mirror recently linked Arsenal to a move for Real Madrid’s defensive midfielder, Sami Khedira. The source even suggests that Arsene Wenger has made a £23.8m bid for the player. It looks like The Professor is serious about this one.

Despite his injury problems over the last year or so, Khedira remains an important player at the Bernabeu. He’s an extremely versatile individual, who works hard, tracks back, makes plenty of tackles and interceptions and loves to break up the opposition’s game plan.

He’s also comfortable on the ball and capable of supporting attacks when necessary. Perhaps this is why Arsene Wenger is so interested in him?

Whether or not Real Madrid are willing to sell remains to be seen, but it’s great to see that Arsenal are targeting big name players again this summer. Perhaps Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil will be re-united sooner than we thought?

What’s your take? Would this German international fit in nicely at The Emirates?

Khedira is a great player, but Lars Bender has to be the No.1 target for DM

  • arsenal-steve says:

Khedira is an Alpha footballer. He is 6’2″, strong as an ox, tireless engine, a winner who knows how to win, dominating, box to box, German international who is at his peak at 27 years old and magically links with Mesut Ozil.. Perhaps who doesn’t want him needs to have their head examined. Along with Arturo Vidal he is the best ‘beast’ in football. Make a bid Arsene and cross our fingers he comes to the Emirates.

He’s averagely very fantastic at winning the ball, possession, finishing, passing. Therefore he is a good addittion.
