£24m star ‘pushing’ for Arsenal move: should Wenger snap him up?

I’d argue that Sami Khedira was the German’s surprise MVP during their 7-1 routing of Brazil during the World Cup semis. The Real Madrid ace is supposed to be a holding midfielder, but given the hosts complete lack of threat moving forward, he was able roam free and create all kinds of havoc.

No Brazilian player seemed willing to pick him up, so he was able to sneak into dangerous positions, create space and find his team-mates with consummate ease. His ease and confidence on the ball was a joy to see, as to was his unselfish nature and his smart footballing brain.

It’s also worth noting that the defensive side of his game isn’t lacking. He’s a hard-worker who always tracks back, covers a lot of ground and loves to put in a tackle. His ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch makes him a real asset.

As it happens, The Gunners appear to be in the market for the German midfielder. The Mirror even claim that the 27-year-old is ‘pushing for a move to Arsenal’. It must be nice to have talented players desirous of a move to North London once again.

The source suggests that Khedira has rejected a new contract with Real Madrid and now wants to join up with his international team-mates, Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski at The Emirates. Could The Gunners be about to benefit from the presence of their growing German contingent?

With Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini both getting on in years, signing a holding midfielder at the peak of his powers could prove to be a smart move. Khedira is the kind of player who’s good enough to drive those around him on to further levels of success. I’m sure that Mesut Ozil would enjoy playing alongside him once again.

Despite having only 12 months left on his Real Madrid contract, Khedira still commands a £24m price-tag (according to Football Fancast). That’s a mark of the man’s talent and ability. Here’s hoping that Arsene Wenger snaps up yet another German superstar this summer.
