After what went down last season, Manchester United fans are bracing themselves for a summer of a big spending. Whilst the World Cup is holding things up, it’s clear that a lot of money is going to change hands during this current iteration of the transfer window.
Louis Van Gaal will be well aware of the extent of the challenge ahead of him at Old Trafford. He’s pressing a poisoned chalice against his lips and should he fail to find the antidote, he’ll find himself in real trouble next season.
Sir Alex Ferguson handed a seriously unbalanced Manchester United side to David Moyes, who wasn’t able to steady the ship. Louis Van Gaal seems to have more managerial nous, but he too is likely to struggle. Let’s just hope he’s given proper backing in the summer transfer market.
This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Louis Van Gaal has ‘ordered’ United’s chief executive Ed Woodward to sign three Bundesliga stars. The players in question are Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels. He’s aiming pretty high, isn’t he?
All three players are German international and all three players currently hold a very important role at one of the Bundesliga’s top two clubs. As such negotiating these deals won’t be easy and these deals certainly won’t come cheap.
But imagine the impact that this terrible trio would have at Old Trafford. Mats Hummels, the giant Borussia Dortmund centre-back is one of the best defenders in the world. He’d certainly help to lessen the blow of Manchester United losing both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
Then there’s Thomas Muller, who over the last two seasons has scored 49 goals in 98 games. If United are looking for more goals from their midfield, Muller would be a good place to start.
Finally, there’s Bastian Schweinsteiger who is a Bayern Munich legend. The man is an absolute inspiration, who certain has the quality and leadership ability so shake Manchester United out of the doldrums.
If United can get their hands on even one of these players, they’ll be in a much stronger position next season. Just imagine what they’d be capable of with all three of them!
