Mario BalotelliWith The Gunners in the market for a top quality striker this summer, the one name that seems to keep popping up is Mario Balotelli. The Italian ace has played a major role in knocking England out of the World Cup and he has a reputation for being difficult to manage, but he’s also a world-class striker. This is surely why Arsene Wenger is interested in the Italian.

Last season The Gunners were forced to rely heavily on Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman did a good job, chipping in with 22 goals, but it’s clear that he needs some help. The main issue is that he lacks pace. As a result he usually plays with his back to goal and slows down The Gunners’ game.

If Arsenal are to get back to their attacking best next season, they may need to bring in a different striker. That’s not to say that Giroud should be put out to pasture, just that The Gunners need more than one option.

Mario Balotelli is good enough to come in and immediately claim at place in Arsenal’s first team. He’s a great finisher (30 goals in 54 appearances for AC Milan), he’s technically gifted and he’s a genuine character. Whilst he’s quick to anger out on the football pitch, he’s got the right mentality and personality to bring a bit of life to the Arsenal training ground. He may start to bring the best out of other Arsenal players too.

Unfortunately for Arsene Wenger, he won’t come cheap. The Mirror suggests that Arsene Wenger has met with Mario Balotelli’s agent in Brazil to discuss a £25m move. The source also suggests that Arsenal are willing to offer the Italian £150k-a-week. In other words, Arsenal could be on the verge of the second biggest deal in the club’s history.

The Mesut Ozil deal cost the club more than £42m. As of yet, the German midfielder has struggled to provide good value for money. Something tells me that Mario Balotelli would be different. I can’t help but feel that he’d provide The Gunners with considerable return on investment.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal wrap up this £25m deal for Mario Balotelli?

  • Delford Magaya says:

As I said it before, Wenger is busy scouting players at the world cup. The Media and newspaper might try to offer a lot of payers to Arsenal, without Wenger’s involvement and he will not accept those players. Arsene Wenger is at the world cup for a reason. He is not there to enjoy football. No! “Not at all”, he is busy looking for players who can fit into Arsenal type of play without any problem.

i am wondering what really is delaying wenger to sign this super talented player and still rallying arround his around his hometown boys. nationalism is not going to help our club this time so go for super mario…

  • Dominic says:

He may have played an important role in knocking England out of the World cup, but his performances in the other 2 matches contributed to Italy’s downfall.
