Manchester United may have signed Juan Mata during the last transfer window, but I think it’s fair to say that their midfield could still use a little sprinkling of inspiration.
The Spanish ace is sure to make a big impact at Old Trafford if given time, but he’s made a pretty slow start. It wouldn’t surprise me if Louis Van Gaal is on the hunt for somebody capable of stamping his mark on this United side, without any delay.
It’s not easy to find players who are capable of instantly improving a side that’s as good as Manchester United (yes they weren’t great last season, but they’re still one of Europe’s top footballing sides), but they are out there. Take, for instance, Inter Milan’s Fredy Guarin, who continues to garner links to Manchester United. (Source: The Mirror)
Last January, Guarin was linked to a host of different Premier League clubs. At different stages Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United were thought to be interested. Whilst the links to the other two clubs have got steadily quieter, The Red Devils still seem to be in the race.
It’s not hard to understand why Louis Van Gaal may be interested in the 27-year-old Colombian. After making a name for himself at FC Porto, Guarin moved to Inter, where he has been one of the top performers in Serie A over the last couple of seasons. He’s no one-season wonder and he certainly looks like the real deal.
Guarin has decent goal-scoring record and is known for his long-range efforts. He’s equally efficient with both feet, always looks confident on the ball, whilst being comfortable in a number of different positions. His versatility (and effectiveness) should make him a fantastic addition to this Manchester United squad.
The aforementioned source, suggests that Inter Milan would be unlikely to turn down an £18m bid for the player. If that’s the case, The Red Devils would be foolish to turn this opportunity down. With Louis Van Gaal looking to add some spark to his midfield, Fredy Guarin could prove to be the perfect choice.
