Mario BalotelliWith Arsenal clearly in need of a new centre-forward next season, fans are desperate to see Arsene Wenger spring into action. The sooner they can bring somebody in, the sooner that individual can acclimatize to their new surroundings, gel with his new team-mates and prepare for next season’s action. The chance for a full pre-season with Arsenal would certainly help.

According to The Mirror, these Arsenal fans could be about to get their wish. They claim that The Gunners are under ‘pressure’ to sign Mario Balotelli before July 10th. Puma want Arsene Wenger to wrap this deal up so that the Italian can appear in Arsenal’s new kit launch on that date.

This must be a strange situation for The Professor to be in. He’s used to having things his own way at The Emirates. I’m not sure that he’ll like being told what to do. Given that he usually likes to wait until deadline day so that he can bring in the best possible options at the cheapest possible price, it’ll be interesting to see how he reacts to Puma’s pressuring.

Arsenal fans will certainly hope that he crumbles. The aforementioned source suggests that Mario Balotelli could be available for £27m this summer.

I’d argue that this represents the fair market-value of a player who’s already so effective at a young age (he’s been around for a while, but he’s still only 23-years-old). Since moving to AC Milan two summers ago, he’s scored 30 goals in 54 appearances.

But he’s more than just a natural finisher. He’s comfortable on the ball, he’s difficult to dispossess and he’s got bag-loads of technical ability. I’m not surprised that Arsenal are interested. Why wouldn’t they be?

Regardless of the pressure put on the club by their commercial partners, The Gunners clearly need to sign a striker. Bringing one in early isn’t going to damage Arsenal is it? If the individual in question happens to be as good as Mario Balotelli, then that should stand the club in very good stead indeed.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal try and get this deal wrapped up as quickly as possible?

Arsenal will not be pressured by Puma, or any commercial partner, into buying a player they do not want. The Arsenal board runs a business that relies on a level of success on the pitch to generate financial success of it. I hope Mental Mario is not a player Mr W wants, as the risk of him being a disruptive force within the team is high, and this could easily lead to bad results on the pitch. Puma, to get value from their investment in the kit deal, need us to be in the CL season after season.
