AC Milan open-minded about Balotelli’s future: Should Arsenal snap him up?

|

Mario BalotelliWith Arsenal on the hunt for a decent striker this summer, they’ve been linked to a number of intriguing options. I’d argue that the best of these options is Italian ace, Mario Balotelli.

The 23-year-old has a reputation for being a troublemaker, but he’s so much more than this. Given how good he is at such a young age, there’s little doubt that he could blossom into one of world football’s deadliest strikers. He’s already well on the way.

Since leaving Manchester City to join AC Milan, Balotelli has scored 30 goals in 54 games. What’s more, it looks like he’s grown up a little bit. Whilst he’s still capable of moments of madness, he now looks like a cooler, calmer personality. He’s still a character, but I don’t think he’s the kind of player who would rock this Arsenal dressing room.

As The Mirror note, The Gunners have been heavily linked to a £25m move for Mario Balotelli. What’s more, they carry quotes from AC Milan boss, Silvio Berlusconi, who expressed an open-minded attitude about his player’s future.

“Balotelli is a great player. But the way I see it, I don’t believe that someone can be irreplaceable. We will see what happens.”

Those sound like the words of somebody who’s trying to soften the blow of a player’s exit. If Mario Balotelli were likely to stay, I’m not sure he’d be quite so nonchalant about the situation.

In other words, Arsenal could really be a position to close this deal. He won’t come cheap, but at least AC Milan don’t look totally unwilling to sell.

With a player like Mario Balotelli leading the line next season, Arsenal would be a completely different proposition for opposition sides. Perhaps they’d finally be able to compete with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

So let’s hope that Arsene Wenger has taken note of Berlusconi’s comments and is ready to swoop in and get his man.

What’s your take? Is Mario Balotelli the right choice for The Gunners?

Balotelli is a good player no doubt, but at the same time there is no guarantee his usual outburst during the field of play. Take for instance what happened in the dressing room during Italy’s final game. But personally I want him in arsenal because his attitude is something Wenger can control and put to check. Scoring goals for us ought to be our main reason and not all these talk on personality.
