Serge AurierWith Bacary Sagna moving on this summer, The Gunners now need to bring in a long-term right-back option. Whilst I’m sure that Arsene Wenger would have liked to focus on bringing in a world-class striker, he’s going to need to fight on multiple transfer fronts this summer.

This is all the more true given how close The Gunners came to Premier League glory last season. They spent longer on top of the table than any other team. With the right recruits in the right areas, who knows what they’ll be capable of next year?

They certainly can’t afford to pin their hopes on their remaining right-back, Carl Jenkinson. Whilst the British full-back is a good reserve option, he looks too nervy and too inexperienced to hold down a proper first team role. No, this is an issue that needs to be solved in the summer transfer market.

Unfortunately, there aren’t that many right-back options out there. The good ones seem to be the subject of a lot of attention. Take The Mirror‘s claim that Arsenal, Tottenham and QPR are all battling it out for Toulouse’s £7m-rated right-back, Serge Aurier.

The Ivory Coast full-back is relatively inexperienced and is still developing. But despite this, he’s still managed to garner interest from three top European clubs (well, two top European clubs and QPR).

Whilst competition for Aurier is heating up, The Gunners do appear to be in pole position. As the aforementioned source notes, the player in question has previously hinted that he could be on his way to The Emirates this summer. What’s more, he’s made little secret of his desire to complete a move to Arsenal.

At 21-years-old, he’s definitely a long-term option. Still, he does have some experience on the international stage (10 caps for the Ivory Coast national side) and looks more ready than Jenkinson currently does.

Whether he’s good enough to propel Arsenal to bigger and better things remains to be seen, but he certainly looks worth the gamble.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners really be interested in this relatively inexperienced full-back? Are there any other options out there that they should be considering?
