Arsene Wenger in Brazil to watch Bundesliga ace: should Arsenal snap him up?

Mario Mandzukic (Croatia):Last season will probably go down as a success for The Gunners (they won their first piece of silverware in nine years, after all), but it was by no means an unqualified success. After spending a long period of time on top of the Premier League table, Arsenal managed to let their lead slip towards the end of the season. In the end Manchester City walked away with the big prize.

Arsenal fans were left to wonder what their side could have achieved if they had more than one decent striker among their ranks. Manchester City have Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo. Manchester United have Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney. Liverpool have Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. Arsenal only have Olivier Giroud and he isn’t as good as any of the aforementioned players.

Naturally, Arsenal fans will want to see their team make quick inroads in the transfer market. But given that there’s a World Cup going on, that’s unlikely to happen. Wenger’s a smart man and he won’t want to sign anybody who could pick up a long-term injury.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Arsene Wenger has flown out to Brazil in order to scout for a new Arsenal striker. At the top of his wish-list is Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic.

Mandzukic recently told the Press that he’s not really cut out for Pep Guardiola’s style of play and that he’s ready to leave Bayern Munich. This came as pretty big news at the time, given his goal-scoring record. In two years at the Allianz Arena, Mandzukic has scored 48 goals (whilst making 88 appearances).

Yes, he’s been playing in front of one of the best midfields in the world, but there’s no doubting that he’s a top quality option. I’m not surprised that Wenger is interested.

He’ll get to watch a lot of top quality options in action during the World Cup. Let’s just hope that Mandzukic impresses enough to tempt The Professor into action.

What’s your take? Is Mario Mandzukic the right option for The Gunners? Who else should they consider?

he plays with the likes of ribbery and robin and yet he doesnt score enough goals to me… bring back joe campbell and than buy angel di maria. or.pedro or alexis sanchez sanchez

Hes a top player. I would like to see him come in and replace Giroud but dont see it happening. As Ahmed said… we dont need him, too similar with Oli. We need a strong and fast player who is right footed but not sooo one footed as Oli is.
