1927393_w2Chelsea, along with their Premier League rivals Manchester City, quite evidently have the best squads in the league, but why has the London club managed to fall short at the final hurdle once again?

Simply, it has to come down to their lack of fire power upfront. Mourinho will be scouring the world for a new top class attacking player. If they want to fight their way back up to the top, an attacker who could possibly perform a role as the ‘new Drogba’ wouldn’t go a miss.

Let’s take a look at Chelsea’s current crop. Quite frankly, £50 million was wasted on Fernando Torres. This season Eto’o has played well scoring 9 goals, yet he’s injury-prone and at the age of 33, he’ll soon be off. Although Demba Ba’s recently hit a run of important form, I don’t believe he’s the prolific striker that Chelsea require. In the 13/14 BPL season, Aguero has scored just one less goal than the Chelsea trio have mustered up between them. Point proven.

This leads me on to a world renowned player who may be on his way to Stamford Bridge.  Jose Mourinho is reportedly keeping a close eye on Paris Saint-Germain’s Ezequiel Lavezzi. At the ripe age of 28 he’s in the form of his playing career and that was highlighted as he put in a good shift whilst playing his potential future club in front of Mourinho himself, scoring the first goal of the Chelsea vs PSG tie. Lavezzi would definitely light up the Premier League and his technical ability on the ball would give defenders nightmares. Plus, with the recent spat between ‘The Special One’ and Eden Hazard, who says that a possible ‘one in one out’ type deal couldn’t be on the cards?

The gifted Argentine has scored 9 goals this season and can play nearly anywhere in the offensive side of the pitch. He can play on the wings, upfront or even sit behind the striker, but the question is; will he be good enough to bang out 20 goals a season?

If Mourinho wants to sign him up he better act fast, as the 28 year old is sure to attract plenty of attention this summer.

What’s your view? Do you think Lavezzi should move to Chelsea?
