Cesc FabregasWith Louis Van Gaal now officially in charge of Manchester United, it’ll be fascinating to see the next stage of this club’s evolution play out. I think it’s fair to say that Van Gaal will command more respect from his players and attract bigger names in the transfer market. The latter claim is important. If The Red Devils are to turn things around, they’ll need to perform a few transfer market miracles.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s suggestion that Cesc Fabregas could be back on the market this summer. That’s right, the same Cesc Fabregas that David Moyes made multiple bids for last year.

It’s easy to see Louis Van Gaal’s interest in Cesc Fabregas as a means of establishing his dominance at Old Trafford. After all, if he were to sign the talented Spaniard, he’d effectively be proving himself more astute than David Moyes. I’d say that that would make for a good start to his Manchester United career.

Last summer there was no chance that Cesc Fabregas would move on, especially not to Manchester United. He’s currently playing at his boyhood club, where he’s getting bag-loads of first team action. Why would he opt to move to a team that’s currently in transition? Why would he move to a side that is one of Arsenal’s major rivals, given his connections to the North London side?

But Cesc Fabregas’ situation has changed over the last 12 months. With Atletico Madrid’s rise to prominence and Barca’s on-coming transfer ban, the Spanish powerhouse looks set for a summer clear-out. The Mirror even claim that they’re considering putting Fabregas up for sale and slapping a £40m price-tag over his head.

That’s a lot of money, but it’s fair value for a player who has scored 13 goals and provided 22 assists this season. He’s a complete midfielder and I’m sure he’d fit in nicely alongside Juan Mata.

Louis Van Gaal is sure to be saddled with a transfer budget this summer and I bet he won’t choke like David Moyes did last summer. If he brings in Cesc Fabregas, he’ll certainly be off to a good start.

What’s your take? Should The Red Devils FINALLY seal the deal for Cesc Fabregas?
