PedroAfter proving to the world that they’re a force once more last season, Liverpool will have to kick things up a notch next year. If they don’t make progress and start bagging some silverware, The Reds could slide back into their old ways.

This won’t be easy. You can bet that the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal will strengthen significantly this summer. Manchester United in particular are going to come back a lot stronger next time around. They simply have to.

If Brendan Rodgers doesn’t watch out, his team could get squeezed out of the top four. Keeping pace with the competition will require a couple of major signings.

This brings me to The Metro‘s exciting claim that The Reds are ‘set to make an offer’ for Barcelona superstar Pedro. That’s right, the same Pedro who has been with Barcelona since 2006. The same Pedro who has made 268 appearances for a side that is widely regarded as one of the best in the history of football and has scored 87 goals. Liverpool are aiming pretty high, aren’t they?

Pedro’s pedigree reflects well on Brendan Rodger’s ambition. If Liverpool can pull off a signing like this, they’ll be in a seriously strong position next season.

The aforementioned source claims that the arrival of new Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique, could force Pedro out at the Nou Camp. It’s hard to see why Barcelona would want to let him go, but I’d certainly like to see Liverpool capitalise on the situation.

At 26-years-old, Pedro is about the enter the best years of his footballing career. Imagine if he were to spend the next three-or-four years at Anfield? It could transform the proficiency of this Liverpool side and turn them into a team that’s capable of competing for the title.

Pedro’s a part of Spain’s preliminary 30-man squad, so is set for a busy summer. It’s up to Brendan Rodgers to sneak in and pluck him up whilst there’s still time. Let’s just hope that he’s up to the task.

Where do you stand? Could Pedro prove to be the best signing that Liverpool make this summer?
