Could Manchester United really wrap up a deal for this £28m talent?

Marco ReusIf Manchester United are to come back stronger next season, I can’t help but feel that they’ll need to make some bold steps in the transfer market this summer.

Sure, David Moyes spent big and brought in Juan Mata, but it’s clear that there’s more work to be done. Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in a pretty bad state and David Moyes exacerbated the situation, so whoever takes charge next faces a real challenge. Who fancies a sip from this poisoned chalice?

There are some positives to take from this season. For a start, despite all their failings, The Red Devils continue to attract links to European football’s best players. Their reputation still proceeds them, it seems.

This brings me to TalkSPORT‘s update regarding Manchester United’s links to Borussia Dortmund wild-card, Marco Reus. The German ace has scored a remarkable 23 goals in 40 performances. That’s quite a remarkable return from an attacking midfielder/winger and is more becoming of a top quality striker. No wonder The Red Devils and the rest of the footballing world are interested.

But he’s more than just a goal-scorer. Reus is lightning quick, loves to run at defenders and has bucket-loads of technical ability. He’s a tricky character and a genuine game-winner on his day. He strikes me as the kind of player who can help Manchester United to turn their situation around.

TalkSPORT claim that the winger has been offered a new contract by Borussia Dortmund, who are trying to eradicate his £28m release-clause (which won’t become active until 2015, unfortunately). The thought of this player being available at this price is quite mouth-watering, even if The Red Devils have to wait a year.

The source also carries quotes from Reus, who’s keeping tight-lipped about his contractual situation: “I’m not saying anything about my contract. But I do have the time to emphasise how good I feel at Dortmund.”

That’s not exactly definitive either way, but it’s hardly an example of him dedicating his long-term future to Dortmund. Maybe there is room for Manchester United to slip and snap him up?

Either way, the time’s right for the club to put their feelers out. If they can attract Marco Reus, they’ll certainly be in a much stronger position.

What’s your take? Are The Red Devils right to pursue Marco Reus? What do you make of the German’s contract situation?

I suppose they should go all the way for prolific player…Godspeed when doing it

I think that the only way this move is going through is if we offer Kagawa as part of a Cash + Player deal – even then it is unlikely given that they have Mkhirtaryan running things from the No. 10 position. It would be great to have Reus at Utd, seeign as it would fill the void left when Ronaldo left the club. God knows how much longer we have to put up with crap like Young and Nani as our primary wingmen – especially given how Utd pride ourselves on our wingplay.

If Man United want a big improvement next season then Marco Reus is a must – at any price above £30/35 million.
