Marco VerrattiIt can’t be easy being an Arsenal fan. The disappointment always seems to come so thick and so fast. Arsene Wenger always seems to find a new way for the club to come up short, no matter how well placed they are.

Jose Mourinho’s ‘specialist in failure’ comments were unnecessarily harsh and cruel, but I’m sure that fans are beginning to feel that there was a ring of truth about them.

At this stage, the only way he can save his reputation is by winning the FA Cup this season. Failure to do this would be unthinkable. Better still, would be if Arsene Wenger managed to win the FA Cup and secure a top four finish. This would provide something for the club to build on in the summer, whether or not The Professor is still a part of the set-up.

It certainly looks as though Arsenal have some ambitious summer plans. According to The Metro, The Gunners are interested in Paris Saint Germain’s well-regarded young midfielder, Marco Verratti.

This strikes me as extremely exciting news. Verratti is a gifted playmaker, whose passing ability is a match for anybody else’s in Ligue 1. The fact that he’s just 21-years-old and has already made 78 appearances for PSG is remarkable. This is a team that’s bursting with talented midfielders, but there’s still plenty of room for this young footballer.

The aforementioned source claims that he could cost as much as £17m. That shows just how well regarded he is in French football. Yet with Yohan Cabaye and Javier Pastore looking to lock down regular first team football, he could find himself getting squeezed out.

There is one aspect of his young career that is notable by it’s absence: he’s not a goal-scorer. In his entire professional career he’s scorer just four goals, one for the Italian international side and 3 for his old club, Pescara. If he does move to The Emirates, don’t expect him to be a regular goal-scorer.

But you can expect him to add a bit of pep and zip to a midfield that’s looked increasingly tired and uninspired as the season has progressed. For that reason alone, he’d be an excellent addition to The Gunners’ squad.

What’s your take? Is Marco Verratti a good transfer target for Arsenal?
