Romelu LukakuAs if big defeats to Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City weren’t enough, The Gunners recorded the biggest humiliation of their season as they lost 3-0 to Everton in a seemingly ‘must win’ game.

After starting the season strong, Arsenal have slowly but surely revealed themselves to be massive chokers. How else can you explain the club’s inability to win away from home against decent opposition?

It’s not like The Gunners don’t have plenty of talented footballers among their ranks. Players like Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil would waltz into almost any team in world football.

What the team lacks, however, is a striker with real killer instinct. They lack pace, movement and flexibility upfront. They lack presence. They lack threat. All the club really has is Olivier Giroud and I’m sure you’ll agree, he’s somewhat lacking.

This brings me to a striker who isn’t exactly lacking in presence: Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku. The big bad Belgian is currently on loan at Everton where he has been tearing things up this season. He scored his 14th goal of the season against Arsenal last weekend and it was a real beauty too (though The Gunners’ defense certainly has a lot to answer for).

In fact, the Belgian’s performance led former Arsenal forward Kevin Campbell to suggest that he’d be a good fit for the North London side, who are seriously struggling in this department at the moment. Here’s what he had to say:

“He’s young, he’s strong, he’s quick and he’s direct. What more do you need?” (Source: The Metro).

What more do you need indeed? It’s clear that Lukaku is the real deal. I’m sure he’d thrive on the kind of service that he’d receive at Arsenal. He’s the kind of player that could go on to become a club legend.

Of course, it’s worth remembering that Jose Mourinho wouldn’t loan Arsenal Demba Ba last summer. There’s no reason to believe that he’d be any more lenient with a player who’s equally, if not more talented.

Still, The Star suggest that Romelu Lukaku could be available for £24m. That’s a lot of money, but it would represent a relative bargain considering what he could offer Arsenal. Let’s hope that Arsene Wenger is still capable of making deals like this happen.

What’s your take? Is Romelu Lukaku a realistic transfer target for The Gunners?
