Alberto MorenoIt has been a tough month to be an Arsenal fan. Earlier in the season The Gunners were flying high at the top of the Premier League table. Now they’ve crashed and burned and they’re currently duking it out with the likes of Everton for a top four slot.

The fact that they just lost 3-0 to Everton certainly doesn’t help. The Toffees are now in pole position and Arsenal have it all to do if they’re to turn things around. Why, oh why, do The Gunners always have to burn out so early in the season?

There’s no use starting strong if you can’t see a season through to its conclusion. Arsenal need to start bringing in players with the right mentality (and the ability level) to help them start challenging for silverware once more. At the moment, The Gunners inability to beat the big sides away from home is crippling the club.

If The Mirror is to be believed, Arsene Wenger is certainly ready to show a bit of ambition in the transfer market. They claim that The Professor is interested in signing Sevilla’s £50m left-back, Alberto Moreno.

Have you ever heard of a full-back being worth that much before? The 21-year-old Spaniard has had an excellent season, cementing his place in Sevilla’s first team and catching the eye of fans and pundits alike.

He’s a small (5 ft 7 in), physically slight footballer, but he has bags of pace, loves to run at defenders and whip in a mean cross. I’d argue that the defensive side of his game needs some work, but it’s clear that he’s got a massive future ahead of him.

Perhaps Wenger is considering converting him into a winger, in the same way that Southampton did with Gareth Bale. I’d argue that’s the only reason why you’d ever consider spending such big money on a full-back.

His signing would probably squeeze Nacho Monreal out of the club, but I’d argue that this is a price worth paying. Nacho is much too inconsistent and doesn’t look capable of holding down a place in the first team. Moreno, on the other hand, could end up being a mainstay in this Arsenal side for many years to come.

What’s your take? Would Alberto Moreno be a good addition to this Arsenal squad? Does Arsene Wenger have other priorities?
