Juan Manuel IturbeLiverpool have performed extremely well this season, but they’ve been quite unable to shake the accusation that they’re reliant on one particular area of their team. The suggestion is that without their strike-force, The Reds wouldn’t have got anywhere this season.

That could well be the case. Both Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have been in sensational form this season, scoring goals for fun, linking up well and bringing others into play when necessary. Having the Premier League’s best centre-forward partnership is hardly going to hinder a side, is it?

Still, I can’t help but wonder what Liverpool could achieve if they had more threat in other areas of the team. If The Reds were a better balanced side, perhaps they’d be able to launch themselves back into the European elite.

In particular, I’d say that it’s about time to address the club’s wingers. Raheem Sterling aside, Liverpool aren’t exactly rolling in quality in this area of the pitch. This is explains why Brendan Rodgers has gone in for wingers like Willian, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mohamed Salah and Yevhen Konoplyanka in the recent past.

He’s well aware that if he manages to create a little cut and thrust down the flanks, he’ll have the makings of a side that’s capable of achieving some big things.

This brings me to The Metro’s claim that Liverpool are interested in FC Porto’s wing-wizard, Juan Manuel Iturbe. The 20-year-old is currently out on loan at Italian club Hellas Verona, who are keen to snap him up as part of a permanent deal.

But the aforementioned source claims that Brendan is looking to jump to the head of the queue through a £15m bid. They even suggest that ‘there is genuine hope that a deal can be done’. Sounds pretty promising, right?

The fact that Iturbe is worth so much at such a young age is telling. He’s got bags of pace, quick feet, confidence on the ball and a direct attacking nature. He’s an extremely exciting player to watch and has the ability to turn a game on its head in an instant. I’d love to see him play alongside Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and co.

Let’s see if Brendan is as keen to make that happen as I am!

What’s your take? Is Juan Manuel Iturbe a good fit for The Reds?
