Arda TuranManchester United are a team that used to be renowned for their decisive wing-play and for the threat they possessed down the flanks. That’s why it’s been so upsetting to see the likes of Ashley Young, Shinji Kagawa, Antonio Valencia and Nani struggle this season.

The Red Devils wing-men have been offering diminishing returns all season long. Ashley Young is a non-entity for the great majority of games (though he is still capable of scoring some truly stupendous goals). Shinji Kagawa has been tried out in numerous different positions due to his inability to hold any one position down. Nani has looked like a player who just doesn’t want to be at the club any more.

Is it any wonder that Manchester United have struggled to create chances this season? They offer no cut and thrust down the wings and have paid the price as a result.

Let’s hope that David Moyes isn’t blind to this problem. Let’s hope he’s already seeking out a solution.

The Sport Review recently ran an article which would suggest that he’s on top of things. They claim that Manchester United are closing in on a transfer for Atletico Madrid’s highly rated wing-wizard, Arda Turan. As evidence, they use the following quotes from his agent, Ahmet Bulut:

“Arda is playing at a big club with big goals and wants to be a part of their success. We have received an offer from an English club. We will see. There are two sides to every transfer, the player and the club, it’s up to both to decide.”

The source also suggests that The Red Devils would have to part with £15m to make a deal for Arda Turan happen. That’s a decent sum of money, but given the Turkish international’s pedigree, I’d say that it would be a smart investment.

He’s 27-years-old and is now just about hitting his peak. He’s certainly become more effective in front of goal this season, as he’s already scored 7 goals (2 more than he got in the entirety of last season). He’s never exactly been prolific, but there’s certainly promise in this area.

Besides, Manchester United will benefit in other ways from his pace, technique and direct attacking nature. Perhaps it’s time to cut the chaff and bring in some quality?

What’s your take? Should Manchester United snap up Arda Turan?

I AM GETTING DISAPPOINTED ABOUT THE WAY WE ALLOW SOME OF OUR YOUNG PLAYERS DO EXIT FROM THE TEAM. SOME OF OUR YOUNG PLAYERS ON LOAN COULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE CHANCE. EXAMPLE MICHAEL KEANE THE DEFENDER WHILE WE WERE HAVING PROBLEMS IN THE DEFENCE. ANDREAS PEREIRA IS ANOTHER GOOD MIDFIELER AND YET PROBLES WITH OUR MIDFIELD. JUST TO MENTION A FEW. WE SHOULD NOT ALLOW POGBA’S ISSUE TO HAPPEN AGAIN.

Nani is injured and Kagawa is a central attacking player. He did very well sitting behind van Persie. Do not say those 2 aren’t doing well. If we actually gave both of them consistent play, they could be top club players. Young sucks I agree. Valencia is OK. He has his games
