Matthias GinterWith multiple members of the Manchester United defence looking to fly the coup this summer, it wouldn’t surprise me if David Moyes was already working hard behind the scenes to get replacements ready. The better he prepares now, the less damage the coming transfer window will bring with it.

Nemanja Vidic is on his way to Inter Milan. We know that much. Rio Ferdinand is likely to follow him to the exit door, as his Manchester United contract is set to expire at the end of the season. This will leave The Red Devils without their two most experience centre-backs. Somebody will have to be drafted in.

There’s been plenty of speculation as to who that somebody should be. One of the names that has been regularly mentioned as a United transfer target over the last month or so, is Matthias Ginter. He’s SC Freiburg’s 20-year-old centre-back, who’s reputation has been growing and growing over the last couple of years.

He’s a sprightly young chap, who covers a lot of ground quickly, makes plenty of timely interceptions and is dominant in the air. Yes, he’s young, but I’m sure he would be a good fit at Old Trafford, providing additional levels of support to Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans.

As it happens, the player recently spoke about his future plans. Check out these quotes:

“I can’t talk about my future in public, these are things that should remain private. But I am pleased that some big teams are interested in me, it is an honour. My goal is to play for a big club in future, it is not a secret. Bayern? It does not necessarily have to be Bayern.” (Source: Inside Futbol)

It seems he wants to keep things private, but still can’t stop commenting on other club’s interest. It’s a topsy-turvy world isn’t it?

But it’s good to hear that he’s not so invested in a move to Bayern Munich that he won’t consider moving to the Premier League instead. If Manchester United make their interest clear, then who knows what might happen? Let’s just hope that David Moyes is already on top of this one.

What’s your take? Would Matthias Ginter be a good choice for Manchester United, or should they look for somebody more experienced?
