Should Spurs really sign this highly-regarded Arsenal fan?

Michy BatshuayiOne of Tottenham’s biggest problems this season has been their forward line. When Emmanuel Adebayor isn’t banging in goals, Tim Sherwood’s side tends to come unstuck. Here’s hoping that this is something that the fresh-faced Spurs boss will look to resolve in the summer.

As it happens, they’ve already started to pick up links to some fairly classy characters. Take, for instance, The Metro‘s claim that Spurs are in the running to sign Standard Liege’s hotshot young striker, Michy Batshuayi.

Despite being just 20-years-old, Batshuayi has scored 18 goals this season in the Belgian top flight. That’s a decent return for a young player, who’s reputation continues to grow.

The only thing that stands in the way of a potential Tottenham move is the player’s previously declared love for Arsenal football club. Check out these quotes:

“I am interested in the German and English championships. They are physical and technical championships.”

“Personally, I like Arsenal. There is a good philosophy at the club, where trust is given to young players. This is a very technical team playing good football, and since I was little this was a team who I liked. I’ve loved the club from childhood.” (Source: The Mirror)

Not exactly words that Spurs fans will be keen to hear. Given that the Gunners have now beaten Tottenham three times this season (and that Tim Sherwood’s side has been unable to score once during these fixtures), this could be chalked up as another victory for the red side of London.

But it doesn’t necessarily have to end up this way. If Sherwood can tempt Batshuayi to move to White Hart Lane, rather than the Emirates, he’ll end up with a player who’s in top form, improving all the time and keen to impress.

If he adds more threat to the Tottenham attack then he’ll have been a smart purchase. Given that Roberto Soldado has been less than useless this year, it shouldn’t be too difficult to improve this ailing strikeforce.

At just 20-years-old, he’s not going to break the bank. Sure, he’ll be more expensive than your average teenager, but he should certainly land squarely within Tottenham’s financial wheelhouse.

Let’s just hope that Tim Sherwood is ready to get persuasive this summer.

What’s your take? Should Spurs move in for this Arsenal fan?
