Antoine GriezmannArsenal are a club who can’t seem to help getting linked to the best young French footballers in the game. Arsene Wenger’s pretty clued up when it comes to players from across the channel, so it’s easy enough for the media to construct rumours and stories about the club.

Take, for instance, The Mirror‘s claim that Arsenal are in the running to sign Real Sociedad’s wing wizard, Antoinne Griezmann. I took this to be a typical piece of transfer tattle before Griezmann himself commented on the rumours:

“PSG, Juventus, Arsenal , Real Madrid, Real Sociedad – I do not know where I will be celebrating my 24th birthday.”

“I do not think too much about that. I think about playing at the moment and nothing more. I did not say I wanted to leave this club. This is not the time to talk about this stuff.”

Perhaps there’s something to the story after all. If the Frenchman is uncertain where his future lies, maybe the time’s right for Arsene Wenger to sneak in and pluck him away.

Whilst Griezmann is looking to celebrate his 24th birthday at one of Europe’s top clubs, I celebrated mine down at my local, with a spot of mid-level camaraderie. Not quite as glamorous, I’m sure you’ll agree.

But then again, Griezmann deserves a move to a big club. He’s been in scintillating form this season and already seems to have outgrown his Real Sociedad surroundings (I hope no Real Sociedad fans are reading this!).

In 26 La Liga games this season, he has found the back of the net 15 times. That’s an astounding return for a winger who only recently turned 23-years-old. It’s not all that surprising to hear that there are plenty of clubs interested in acquiring his signature.

Arsenal, however, appear to be uniquely placed. They’ve got French appeal, they’ve got Arsene Wenger and they’d be able to offer the youngster plenty of game time. This could well prove to be a match made in heaven.

What’s your take? Should Antoine Griezmann make a move to the Emirates? Would he be a good fit for the Gunners?
