Should Manchester United make this man the highest paid teenager in the Premier League?

Luke-ShawHaving just signed Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata, David Moyes made it clear that he’s not afraid of dipping into his club’s bank account.

But then he went and surprised everybody by offering Wayne Rooney a pay-rise that will see the England international pick up £300k-a-week. Whether Rooney deserves it or not isn’t of interest here. What’s most intriguing is Moyes’ willingness to change his arm in the transfer market and with his player’s salaries.

If only he were as brave with his tactics as he is with the club’s finances.

Well, if you believe the papers, it looks like the man’s spending spree is set to continue when the summer transfer window re-opens.

The Mirror claim that David Moyes is preparing a move for Southampton starlet, Luke Shaw. They claim that Shaw will pick up £75k-a-week as part of this deal, making him the highest paid teenager in Premier League history. That’s £15k-a-week more than Adnan Januzaj currently receives.

At first glance, this looks like a supremely silly amount of cash to pay an 18-year-old. Shaw is still learning his trade and making a name for himself. He’s barely broken into the England team, so should he really be picking up more than most of his international team-mates?

That’s a difficult question to answer. One thing’s for sure. The longer Manchester United hold back on signing him, the more his price-tag and expected wages will rise. It would probably be smart to get a deal done before the World Cup if possible.

Any banner performances on the world stage could make a deal for this Southampton starlet extremely difficult to arrive at.

It’s also worth remembering that Manchester United need Shaw. Patrice Evra may or may not move on in the summer, but it’s clear now that he only has so much left in the tank. It’s high time that David Moyes got to thinking about replacements. This, I think, is where Luke Shaw fits in.

Yes, he’s only 18, but given his performances for the Saints this season, I can’t help but feel that he’s ready for a move to a bigger club, even if it means Manchester United having to spend big once more.

Quality rarely comes cheap, after all.

What’s your take? Is Luke Shaw a good choice for Manchester United?

Moyes should do his best to make sure that he will definitly grap Shaw on summer transfer, I want believe that 75k a week fo Shaw is merited as a teenager period.
