Is this German ace the solution to Manchester United’s defensive exodus?

Matthias GinterDavid Moyes is going to face a real predicament this summer. Many of his most experienced defenders are ready to sling their hooks and this could leave The Red Devils wanting in a serious way.

I can only hope that David Moyes and the Manchester United top brass have a plan of action in place. Let’s hope that wish lists are being drawn up, candidates considered and scouting missions undertaken at this very moment.

The more proactive Manchester United can be, the less damaging this summer is likely to be. If the club can line up smart replacements for all the players who head to the exit door, David Moyes can still come out on top of a difficult situation.

One player that The Red Devils certainly seem to be looking at is Freiburg centre-back, Matthias Ginter. In fact, TalkSPORT claim that David Moyes has been to watch the German play and that a move could be on the cards this summer.

They also carry quotes from the player himself, who was clearly excited about the link: “If it is true, I am of course honoured and excited. On the other hand, there is still a long way to the summer.”

First things first, Ginter is 20-years-old, so he may well be viewed as a long-term solution. Still, he’s played a key role for a strong Germany U21 team and has made 53 appearances for SC Frieburg.

During those appearances, we’ve seen a strong-minded young footballer who’s quick along the ground and powerful in the air. He’s also demonstrated footballing intelligence beyond his age. He may be a spring chicken, but he’s a sprightly one.

His current club lie 17th in the Bundesliga table. If they get relegated, Ginter will probably be sold. Even if they don’t, Manchester United have enough in the bank to convince the German side to sell.

He’s clearly keen on a move and he wouldn’t cost a fortune. Given the workload that David Moyes will face this summer, this looks like a no brainer. He has the ability to grow into a world-class player and should be on the club’s radar at this moment in time. Let’s hope that Manchester United take the plunge.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United seal the deal for this talented young German defender?
