It’s been a difficult season for Manchester United fans. It would be easy enough to label this a year of transition, but it all seems to be considerably worse than that. The club are in full blown crisis mode at the moment.
And as good as it is to see The Mirror claim that David Moyes has been ‘armed with a £100m war chest’, there will still be some concerns. It’s worth asking the following question: is Moyes the right man to spend all this cash? His struggle to sign players during the summer (before spending a heap of cash on a player that the club didn’t need) does not bode well.
Still, that kind of money can fix a lot of problems. It will give the former Everton man a chance to start chasing some world-class talent and build a Manchester United side in his image. The fans will certainly be watching with bated breath to see who he moves in for.
The same article linked above suggests that Juventus’ gifted midfielder, Claudio Marchisio, is on Moyes’ watch-list. It’s thought that Manchester United are looking to test the waters with a £20m bid. If this is true, it would represent very exciting news indeed.
If you’ve been paying attention to Italian football for the last two-or-three years, you’ll be well aware of Marchisio’s prowess. The man is a fantastic all round midfielder, who’s great on the ball, tough in the tackle and can thread a neat pass or two.
He’s also capable of chipping in with a few goals from time to time. He’s a man of many talents.
But he isn’t having the best season. The rise of Paul Pogba (an ex-Manchester United player, as irony would have it) and the form of Arturo Vidal has been keeping him out of the Juventus team. With the World Cup fast approaching, I’m sure a change of scenery would be greatly appreciated.
£20m is a lot of money, but I’d say that figure fairly represents his value. At 27-years-old, he’s still got plenty left to give. He’s a player who has always struck me as being a perfect fit for the Premier League. So maybe it’s time to make it happen?
