Could this double transfer deal be just what Spurs need?

Mirko VucinicInstalling Tim Sherwood as Tottenham boss could well prove to be a masterstroke on the part of Daniel Levy. Whilst I’m not sure he’s as tactically astute as Andre Villas-Boas, he’s more of a man-motivator, knows the players well and has them performing again.

He’s also proven to be willing to make tough (but smart) decisions. Take, for instance, his decision to reinstate Emmanuel Adebayor, who AVB had put out to pasture. This has freed up Roberto Soldado, who’s looked more lively in recent weeks and given the club’s talented Dane, Christian Eriksen, another target to aim at. I can’t help but feel that Sherwood has already set out his blueprint for success.

Yes, Spurs looked a little lacklustre against Arsenal during their third round FA Cup tie. They looked at odds with the pace of the game and the defence struggled to keep up with Theo Walcott’s pace. But Tottenham’s potential was on full display during their clash with Manchester United. Their 2-1 victory should bode well for the rest of the season.

That’s particularly true if Tim Sherwood opts to bring in a player or two this January to keep the momentum up. Indeed, given the way that Roberto Soldado has struggled this season and the fact that Jermaine Defoe is moving to Toronto, it makes sense for Spurs to sign a striker.

As it happens, The Mirror recently linked Tottenham to not one, but two centre-forwards, both of whom happen to play for Juventus. The players in question are Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella, who are both 30-years-old and are finding regular game-time hard to come by in Serie A (largely thanks to the arrival of Carlos Tevez). Spurs could provide them both with a welcome exit route.

Last season Quagliarella scored 13 goals in 35 games. Vucinic (who often operates behind the main striker) has scored 25 goals in 86 appearances for The Old Lady. Whilst they’re not among world football’s most prolific, they are both good options.

More importantly for Spurs, given their recent expenditure, they’re also affordable. If Tim Sherwood (or Daniel Levy) is interested, there’s definitely some scope for deals here.

Given the recent rumours regarding West Brom’s Shane Long, I’d argue that this represents a step up for the club. I certainly wouldn’t be upset to see Spurs wrap up this double deal.

What’s your take? Should Tottenham move in for both Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella?
