Jackson MartinezWhilst Arsenal fans will have enjoyed their club’s performance against Spurs during the third round of the FA Cup, they won’t have enjoyed seeing Theo Walcott getting stretchered off towards the end of the game (even if he did manage to goad Spurs fans in the process).

The Gunners are short of options upfront, so I guess it’s sod’s law that all of the club’s strikers are currently on the physio’s bench. Olivier Giroud’s recovering from a knock, as is Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo (who has been out for a long while now). Even Lukas Podolski (who is a part-time striker) is still working to regain his fitness after a few months on the sidelines.

Theo Walcott has spent most of his Arsenal career operating as a winger, but his performance against Spurs indicated that he could hold down a position as a striker if needs be. He was lively, worked hard and showed a willingness to get shots away that other Arsenal players seem to lack. Maybe he is a natural striker after all?

Regardless, Arsene Wenger now faces a conundrum. He’s out of options upfront and it’s odds-on that he will bring somebody in during the January transfer window.

I certainly hope that Wenger takes a look at Jackson Martinez. He could be the perfect solution to all of the Gunners’ problems. What’s more, it seems that he’s keen on a move to the Emirates.

The FC Porto has been making a real name for himself this season. He’s already scored 12 goals in 14 appearances. That sounds to me like the kind of player that Arsenal need. Well, check out these quotes from the man himself:

“I cheered for Arsenal when I was a kid – I love their style of play. It’s flowing and open with a lot of first touch passes. It would be suitable for a player like me. If I get a chance to play for a high level club like Arsenal I wouldn’t hesitate to accept it.” (Source: The Mirror)

He’s not mincing his words here. He’s probably well aware of Arsenal’s current deficit upfront and that’s why he’s willing to talk up a potential move. But this does strike me as a fantastic option for the Gunners.

The man is a deadly force in front of goal and he’s got plenty of technical ability and intelligence.

Of course, he won’t come cheap. But Arsene Wenger has proven willing to splash the cash when necessary in recent times. I’ll certainly have my fingers crossed.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal make a move for FC Porto’s Jackson Martinez?

Aging player at 27-28? I doubt his age make him better and better unless he is a World class technician like RvP or Bergkamp (in this age). We need the age of 20-25 to make sure Arshavin -esh newer happen Again.

Three strikers are not too much where you are a tittle contender. It might even make the existing strikers wake up from their slumbber.jackson Martinez will be a reasonable addition to Arsenal squad. Wenger should snap him up without waisting time.

Giroud recovered from his knock for Tottenham, but had the flu. He’s been back in full training since Tuesday and will be ready for Monday’s game against Villa. Nicklas Bendtner has come on in his rehab, and will be available in 10 or 11 days, with the Fulham clash on the 18th a target, though he is believed to be definitely back (and match fit) for Coventry in the FA cup on the 24th. Yaya Sanogo has finally been given the all-clear to return to full training, though I think he may be given a few matches with the under 21’s when Akpom leaves on loan, before taking his place on the bench. Sanogo needs some strength training. With the step up in Serge Gnabry, and Oxlade-Chamberlain back in training, I don’t see Arsene Wenger going out to buy another Winger to cover Theo, and considering Giroud is back and Bendtner will return in just two games from now, I can’t see Arsene splashing the cash on a Striker during the Winter window. If he did, I would like to see Costa or Benzema, but realistically neither of those will leave their respective teams before the Summer. Arsene knows this, and probably won’t buy anything buy youth in the window. Everyone seems to be forgetting that Arsenal also have Joel Campbell’ (Olympiakos 20 year-old striker) contract, and if were in desperate need, could simply recall him. He has a number of goals and assists under his belt this season. There won’t be a striker signing.

@ beje you sound like you know nothing about football… ‘I don’t know why Wenger is beating around the bush, he said he needs a “special” striker. Isn’t Jackson Martinez one of them?’

Please check out his skills and goals, he is very strong, very quick, got fantastic dribbling skills, very hungry for goals… He is super quality, a beast on d pitch and very deadly in front of goal, more so, he is an Arsenal fan. Mr Wenger, no need to look any further, i strongly believe this guy ticks all boxes for us, on a long and and short term fix.
