Sebastian GiovincoWhilst Arsene Wenger recently moved to play down the rumours linking his club to German midfielder, Julian Draxler, it also seems that Arsenal are no closer to signing the striker they desperately need.

When asked whether he was ‘curious’ about Julian Draxler, he responded: “I am curious… of course I’m curious it’s my nature. But the transfer period lasts until the 31st of January. Are we close to signing anybody? At the moment I would say no.”

This seems to suggest that a deal could still be forthcoming, but that it may not happen in the next few days. He also doesn’t clarify whether he’d like to wrap up a deal for Julian Draxler, or bring in another striker.

With Olivier Giroud looking increasingly tired and Arsenal lacking other options, this should be the priority. But what if he could sign a player who’s capable of covering both bases?

This brings me to Sebastian Giovinco, who The Star claims is one of the Gunners’ key transfer targets. The Juventus ace can play as an attacking midfielder, or a secondary striker and is equally adept in both positions. He’s strong on the ball, isn’t afraid to take opponents on and remains confident in front of goal.

Whilst all the chopping and changing position-wise has meant he’s never been able to develop a satisfying goal-scoring record, he’s certainly capable of being a game-winner on his day.

Giovinco’s agent, Claudio Pasqualin has provided the following update on his player’s situation:

“There’s been a request for information but a deal is still far from being done. It is logical that that the interest of a club like Arsenal is flattering and something to be proud of, but, once again, at the moment there are no negotiations underway between Juventus and the Gunners.”

He also added the following tidbit of information: “Could Giovinco leave Juventus in January? Absolutely not, that hypothesis can be excluded”.

That’s news that’s sure to disappoint Arsenal fans.

Still, money talks. Giovinco has started just two games this season and I’m sure he’s desperate for more action. A change of scenery could provide him with the impetus he needs to get his career back on the right path. If Arsenal were to offer the right amount of money, would Juventus really say no?

As such, it all really depends on just how interested the Gunners are. Time will tell.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners be in the market for Sebastian Giovinco?
