Will Arsenal ever get rid of Nicklas Bendtner?

Nicklas BendtnerWith Manchester United and Chelsea stealing all the headlines in the January transfer window, Arsenal have been left treading water. The club is in with a good shot of winning the Premier League this season, but failure to strengthen the squad further could seriously scupper their chances.

Manchester City look imperious this season. Chelsea have strengthened (yes, they’ve lost Juan Mata but they weren’t really using him any way) and Manchester United should improve over the course of the season. Could the Gunners be set to fall down the Premier League table as the months pass by?

That’s a distinct possibility at the moment. With Arsenal lacking in options upfront and Arsene Wenger’s seeming unwillingness to right the issue, there’s a clear lack of balance in the squad.

It doesn’t help that a lot of the transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal this January have concerned their Danish striker, Nicklas Bendtner. The great Dane has always had a love-hate relationship with Arsenal fans (mostly hate), who are more or less sick of the sight of him.

Bendtner is viewed as a footballer with a decent amount of talent, but little application. It’s safe to say that he’s not the hardest working footballer in the Arsenal squad and his off the field antics haven’t helped either. I’m as sick of seeing Bendtner’s pants as the rest of you.

But Arsenal have found it difficult to cut ties with him. His career at the Emirates has been all but over for the last two years. Still, he keeps creeping back into the conversation.

As The Mirror notes, Nicklas Bendtner had been linked with a move away from the club this January (indeed, these links seem to pop up every single transfer window), but his agent moved to quash the rumours. The aforementioned source provides the following quotes:

“We have not been in touch with Arsenal about it [Bendtner’s future]. We might discuss it with Arsenal later in case it is necessary. Nicklas is focused on Arsenal and regaining his fitness.”

Whilst it’s nice to hear he’s not distracted, it’s frustrating to hear that his exit hasn’t drawn any closer. Perhaps Arsenal fans just need to get used to the fact that Bendtner will be a permanent fixture at the Emirates? No matter how many times you try to get rid of him, he’ll just keep popping up.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal cash-in on Nicklas Bendtner?

As an arsenal support and fan I really don’t get why people are still on NB case. He is an arsenal player currently and can definitely score GOALS. So why not just support him and done. There are many fickle fans out there just looking for the worse in players who wear the badge when they should be supporting and wonder why Arsenal can’t win a title. Instead of building confidence in a player (Arsenal player) we tear it down. But when we are on the ropes and the first 11 isn’t cutting it and this same player scores we are all happy. SO WHY NOT BE HAPPY and Support the guy. Simple example, Gervinho!
