Should Arsenal splash £42m on this impressive striking duo?

Michy BatshuayiSo, here we are. Arsenal have just about muddled their way through a tough December period and they’re still operating around the top of the Premier League table. With the fixtures coming thick and fast, the Gunners haven’t exactly been at their best, but they have just about managed to hang in there.

But after many years of failure, fans will want more. This Arsenal side has gone without silverware for too long. Surely it’s time to start building a squad that can compete with the Manchester Uniteds, Chelseas and Manchester Citys of this world?

Thus far this season, the Gunners have really struggled against the big teams. Apart from a 1-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund (a good defensive performance, but nothing spectacular) and a 2-0 victory over Liverpool (the club’s most fluent performance of the season), Arsenal have constantly come undone against the Premier League elite.

This Arsenal side is clearly a lot better than it was last season. There’s no longer a need to grind out results. Arsenal have pushed aside mid-table sides with consummate ease. But it still lacks confidence. I get the feeling that certain players still don’t feel that they can beat the top teams.

Arsene Wenger could certainly make his life easier, if he were to spend a little cash in the January transfer window. In particular, signing a striker or two could transform Arsenal into title contenders (if they’re not already).

According to The Mirror, Arsenal are in the market for both Michy Batshuayi and Jackson Martinez. The former is a Belgian starlet, currently slamming home goals for Standard Liege and the latter is FC Porto’s highly regarded striker.

Jackson Martinez has a £34m release clause and it’s likely Arsenal would have to meet this sum if they want to sign him. But given that he’s scored 12 goals in 14 games this season (and was impressive last year as well), I’d say it’d be worth it.

Batshuayi, at just 20-years-old, already has an £8m price-tag. He’s been scoring goals for fun in Belgium and could well turn into the next Romelu Lukaku (though he’s not quite as powerful as the Chelsea striker).

In total, this would set Arsenal back £42m. That’s a lot of money, but just think of the additional firepower they’ll be adding to their squad. Who knows? Perhaps Michy Batshuayi and Jackson Martinez can help the Gunners to finally start recording victories over bigger competition?

What’s your take? Should Arsenal snap up these two strikers?

It makes absolute sense ! Its time our outstanding midfielders get quality strikers to help their efforts ! Giroud is a good player but we need more to make sure that our campign to win silverware is not cut short !

  • Carlos says:

Would wenger think of that? Giroud is good to be a back-up striker not what a team can depend on him.

  • Micheal says:

It will make sence if wenger can grant us our request

  • Jean B says:

As arsenal fan, we agonize in every game with uncertainty concerning our Attacking force compared to the likes of Man City and Chelsa. Wenger must learn to spend some cash and add a very good striker like Diego Costa or Robert Lewandowski and a stopping middlefielder in order to give chance to team for a silverware.

  • Arshad Sabat says:

I aggree….Wenger is always looking for young talent and they well fit the category……their also young strikers cusing a t 2 all our elite counterparts…so why not….nthng 2 lose with the help of Giroud and Podolski and Walcott and even Yahya Sanogo…dont rule him out his only 20 years old…lets wait and see..:):)..go gunners.ets win the BPL,…..i believe we can:)

  • Blair Twaddell says:

That would help a lot and would push arsenal closer to premier leage

  • little Tommy tucker says:

If we do not add another striker or strikers then we will not even get top four.
