Loic RemyOne of the big positives of Newcastle’s season thus far has been the presence of talented French striker, Loic Remy. The man seems to be a natural goal-scorer and he’s done a good job of spearheading the Magpie’s attack this season.

Unfortunately, he’s at St James Park on loan from QPR. If Newcastle want to keep him, they’ll have to spend big. Indeed, thanks to recent comments from Harry Redknapp, we now know exactly what it’ll take to tie him down on a permanent basis:

“If someone came and offered £15m or £16m for him I’d sell him if it was my choice, but it’s not. I don’t know what the deal is. You’d think they’d want to snap him up, wouldn’t you? If they don’t somebody else will. For what we got him, for he’s probably worth double that now – he’s scored goals in Premier League again this year.”

Even by today’s standards, £16m is a lot of money for a player with only 16 Premier League goals to his name. But Harry may well be right in this case. To Newcastle United, Loic Remy may well be worth £16m.

After all, the rest of the club’s strikers aren’t exactly slamming home the goals are they? In Loic Remy, the Toon have a striker who doesn’t cower in front of goal and isn’t afraid to take chances. He’s unpredictable, has bags of pace and isn’t shy of technical ability. Most importantly, however, he’s a clinical finisher.

In 19 games this season he’s managed to find the back of the net 10 times. Newcastle United could use a little more of that.

I’m sure that Alan Pardew would be happy to let a deal happen, but whether the club’s top brass would be so keen is more debatable. Spending that much money would represent a fairly sizable investment.

But if Newcastle don’t, somebody else will. Remy is clearly a talented individual and he’s a Premier League goal-scorer. With clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea struggling to get goals out of their forwards, I’d be surprised if both London sides weren’t sniffing around.

So whatever happens, Newcastle will have to move quickly. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.

What’s your take? Is Loic Remy worth £16m? Should Newcastle United consider other options?

Why does anybody believe a single word that comes out of Harry’s mouth. He makes everything up all of the time and usually says the opposite the next time he is asked. The whole 16 m thing is rubbish
