Could this Liverpool double-swoop be just what the club needs?

Mohamed SalahLiverpool’s 2-1 defeat against Manchester City provided further evidence that the Reds have a way to go before they’ve got a squad that’s capable of competing for the Premier League title. Whilst Brendan Rodger’s boys have recorded a couple of impressive results against big boys this season, they often look a little under-cooked when squaring off against more challenging opposition.

Think back to the game against Arsenal, where Liverpool were second best throughout. It strikes me that some individuals within this side lack the confidence that they need to pull off a result against these clubs.

Liverpool are clearly on the rise at the moment, so confidence will arrive eventually. But there’s a way to quickly engineer belief: making some smart signings. Just look at what signing Mesut Ozil did for Arsenal (a player that they didn’t really need).

The Reds are strong upfront and at the back. The one area that Brendan Rodgers needs to look at is his midfield. Well here’s some good news: according to The Star, Liverpool are hoping to complete a double swoop for FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah and Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic this January. These players are targets for clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham, so there’s sure to be plenty of competition for their signatures.

If Liverpool managed to get their hands on both players, they’d add some real buzz and bite to their midfield. The Star go as far as to dub Mohamed Salah, ‘the Egyptian Messi’. Hyperbole aside, his quick, direct running, technical ability and confidence in front of goal would serve the Reds well. His £7m price-tag should certainly be within Liverpool’s financial wheelhouse.

Rakitic has arguably been even more impressive. The Croatian playmaker has been in excellent form for Sevilla this season, finding the back of the net 7 times and assisting his team-mates 5 times in 14 games. Those are some impressive figures, so it’s little wonder that there’s so much speculation regarding his future.

With Steven Gerrard approaching the autumn of his career, a move for Ivan Rakitic would be smart.

A move for both Ivan Rakitic and Mohamed Salah would make it easier for Liverpool’s midfield to link-up with the high-quality strikers, Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. Here’s hoping that Brendan Rodgers has got his negotiation cap on this January.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool attempt to complete this double swoop deal and bring in both Mohamed Salah and Ivan Rakitic?

Its never going to happen, because the word is FSG think Rodgers and The Committee our waisting vast amounts of money on second rate players.Allen Borini Assaidi Aspas Alberto Ilori cost well over £55.000.000 Million Pound, and there truely DROSS !!! The word is FSG will only sanction more loan deals till the money waisted is put back into club, they will not be made too look fools again ( Like Comolli & CLOWN FOOLGLISH did ) SO FORGET ABOUT TOP 4,IT ISN’T GOING TO HAPPEN ANYTIME SOON !!!

Why dont you find a club you like and support the players rather than spouting this rubbish.

Most of these players are young players making their way. Allen has started to perform, Aspas has been injured most of the season but showed some good touches the other day, Llori is a kid who hasnt even played in the first team. Assiadi has started to play well for Stoke and hasnt really been given a chance yet.

this Foolglish you talk about is a club legend who put together one of the greatest Liverpool sides i have ever seen. He was also a fantastic player in his own right. Perhaps you werent about to see it, but perhaps get sold old dvds out and take a look. Even though he signed a few duds, he still bought players like Suarez, Barnes, Aldridge, Houghton and Beardsley to the club. Won 3 league titles, 2 FA Cups, and in his only full season back with us took us to 2 cup finals winning the league cup.

Henderson is starting to look a player. I bet you were saying he was shit last season along with Lucas in previous seasons..

If you support LFC then support the players or go somewhere else, as you are the only person looking a fool

SALAH and RAKITIC could be a better signing in January,But I think we need bullfighter like Diame in Defensive role,Above all RB,Brendan must bring in one to compete GLEN.We loss balls easily in Right back

  • Kabir Gambo says:

It will be a nice signing for Lfc and hopefully, the players will help the club pushing for top finish or winning the premier league for the first.

  • Edwin says:

Let br buy 2 of them asap

  • osakue monday says:

Rodgers should please sign these talented stars salah. and Ivan.

  • Odama Alfred says:

Yes,these are news we have been waiting for.but rember our right back johnson is doing nothing and should be replaced by creative right back because he slows the speed of our moves.

  • salam says:

it will be better to sign them and good to offload some

  • Jas says:

Unfortunately I don’t think Brendan is that much of a say in transfers. He keeps mentioning the ‘transfer team looking for the correct profile of player we need’. If you read between the lines I’m sure that is what he is alluding to.

  • michealpedro says:

  • bright says:

They both will be good signings and would help our team in moving forward. Glen Johnson is a concern for me he is not performing as he use to

  • craig jones says:

would love these two but i would also go shopping at chelsea for mata and essien !

  • simon says:

I would like us to sign mata salah and tello also I think something must be happening if sterling goes out on loan

  • Saeed says:

Thats going to be a good addition, although sallah is set to pass a medical today, so two or three mre players will do for the season, and Rodger should also take skertel and coutinho ino consideration, skertel full of mistake and was instrumental to our lost against mancity and chelsea for his tackle against company and etoo respectively which lead to liverpool coceeding goals frm those two. Coutinho on his own part is becoming mre selfish than ever befoer, he wate chances when liverpool are in dier need of three points…..liverpool will really need a good playmaker, and with tha, sky will be our stepping stones………….YNWA
