finalIt comes as no surprise that Manchester United are in need of a new centre back pairing if they want any chance of crawling into the top four and these changes need to happen quickly.

With likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic looking as if they are soon to retire and United lacking the kind of quality reserved for a Championship winning side, Moyes will certainly have to use his money wisely this time if he wants to keep his job.

Do his saviours come in the defensive duo of FC Porto’s Eliaqium Mangala and Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay?

David Moyes has apparently been in talks with Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes to discuss the possibility of signing two of his clients according to the Sunday Telegraph.

I’m not sure if Garay would be the perfect fit for the United centre-back role as, even though he’s playing at the pinnacle of his game at 27 years-old, he isn’t a well renowned star and I’m not sure he has the quality to carry the Red Devils to victory. Still, he would be an improvement to the current state of affairs at Old Trafford.

However, the signing of Mangala is a different story. He’s a highly rated 22-year-old who’s already proven that he’s got what it takes to play at the top level with Porto. He’s strong, powerful and will certainly strengthen United’s back four.

He reminds me a little of Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho. He loves to get into a challenge, just not in the right areas of the pitch as his tactical awareness and positioning isn’t the greatest. Plus, with a huge price tag of around the £35 million on his shoulders, I’m not sure whether Moyes can afford to take a risk on him.

It’s been reported that rivals clubs such as City and Chelsea are also in the running for the Frenchman after he expressed his eagerness for a move to England: “The Premier League? That is no secret, to me it is the most beautiful league in the world.”

Should Manchester United leave this pairing for their rivals? Do you think that Garay and Mangala would be a great partner ship for United or do you think they should aim to buy other possible centre back options such as Dede, Jagielka or Hummels?

What’s your views, would this duo be perfect for United?
