kostas-mitroglou-hairstyles11There’s been a lot of talk already this season as to who Arsenal may bring in to support their lone striker Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman has had to lead the Gunners’ front line alone this season, with brief cameos from the likes of Theo Walcott, Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo providing little respite.

Given Giroud’s physicality and hard-working nature, it’s a wonder that he has entered Arsene Wenger’s fabled ‘red zone’ before now. But a season of hard knocks, tough tackles and tiring build-up play seems to have taken its toll on the French international.

He was rested for the Gunners recent game against Hull City and put in a very quiet performance during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Everton. In short, the man looks knackered.

Arsene Wenger attempted to purchase some support for him during the summer, but was unable to agree a deadline day deal for Chelsea’s Demba Ba. Jose Mourinho saw that Arsenal were title contenders this year and sent Arsene Wenger packing. Unfortunately, the Gunners didn’t have enough time to look at other options and bring somebody else in.

Luckily, that won’t be the case during the January transfer window. Even now I’m sure that Arsene is drawing up a list of potential transfer targets. I can only hope that by the time January 1st rolls by, he’s ready to make his move.

He doesn’t need to break the bank either. After all, he’s looking for back-up for Olivier Giroud, not somebody who is going to force him out the team.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Arsenal are ready to make a move for Olympiakos front man Konstantinos Mitroglou. The Greek ace has already scored 14 goals in 10 games this season and has turned plenty of heads thanks to his high energy and highly effective performances.

When quizzed about the striker, Wenger could barely hide his interest. Take a look at these quotes:

“He is a true finisher but he must try to evolve to a higher level. In any case, all the major European clubs will certainly be alert. We cannot neglect him.”

As a back-up striker, he’d be an excellent addition to the squad. At 25-years-old, he’s about to enter the best years of his playing career. I can’t help but hope that he does so with Arsenal. With an £8m price-tag, he’d make for a relatively inexpensive gamble.

What’s your take? Is Arsene Wenger right to have had his head turned by Konstantinos Mitroglou?

I think Arsenal do not have aproblem with astriker, considering the likes of Podolski,Yaya Sanoga and Alex Chamberlain who are recovering from injuries. What Arsenal need is a rightback to assist Sagna.I feel Jenkinson has not matured substancially.The-team gets problems whenever sagna is not playing.
