Why Spurs need to be in the running for this £25m goal ace:

Leandro DamiaoLooking back, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to understand why Andre Villas-Boas only signed one striker over the summer.

Tottenham spent the entirety of last season trying to get goals out of their forwards. Unfortunately, Emmanuel Adebayor seems to be in a self-enforced footballing coma and Jermaine Defoe is starting to show his age. This pairing just can’t be relied upon any more.

As a result, the onus was placed on Gareth Bale to bring in the goals – something which he was more than capable of doing. His summer move to Real Madrid was always going to create difficulties in this area. I’m not sure AVB protected Tottenham from a potential goal drought as best he possibly could.

Instead he brought in a single, slightly limited striker and loaded the midfield. This gambit just hasn’t paid off. Roberto Solado doesn’t seem to have the killer instinct in front of goal that we were hoping for and Tottenham’s midfield seems to have lost its creative edge.

Unsurprisingly, Spurs have quickly dropped out the running for a top four slot this season. But it’s not too late. There’s still a lot of games to come and if Daniel Levy an co. bring in another top striker, who knows what could happen?

This may finally provide Spurs with the opportunity to make a concrete move for long-term transfer target Leandro Damiao.

The Internacional ace has been impressive at club level and international level for some time now. He’s quick, he’s technically gifted (he’s Brazilian, so I guess that goes without saying) and he’s a dab hand in front of goal. Best of all, he’s only 24-years-old, so he’s got plenty of football left in him.

I can’t help but feel that he would be the perfect choice for Spurs.

Tottenham’s link to Damiao was recently strengthened by Internacional club president Giovanni Luigi: “There are no negotiations underway as the league just ended on Sunday. The possibility of Leandro Damiao leaving is still open, but nobody has contacted me.” (Source: The Star)

He’s available. That much is clear.

With his £25m price-tag, he certainly won’t come cheap. But given his quality and Tottenham’s desperate need, it may be worth splashing the cash. Let’s just hope that Spurs have some left over following their summer splurge.

What’s your take? Should Spurs finally make their move for Leandro Damiao, or consider other options?

Damiao has scored 5 times in 27 games, not that impressive I would have thought thats why Inter are looking to move him on

“Unsurprisingly, Spurs have quickly dropped out the running for a top four slot this season.” quite a statement for a team only 3 points behind 4th spot with 2/3rd of the season still to go.
We could certainly use another striker, but given Damiao’s form and the fact that his price seems to be dropping considerably there’s lots of arguments to suggest he may not have been the great deal that this article suggests

His form has not been good and 25M would be an absurd price. Maybe 12M. This is his owner realizing that he lost his chance to get a good price for the player and doing anything he can to drum up interest. He’ll be sold to Santos for probably less than half of 25M.

  • Acton_Yid says:

Honestly mate, which Club in World Football right now would drop £25m on Damiao ?!? I’ll give your little pea brain a clue, it’s between -1 and 1…

  • Brad says:

Just another over priced, not proven striker.. Money better spent else where

  • Azas says:

Poor article. Do your research. Damiao has been sold to santos for 11 million…..and his form has dropped considerably the last 2 seasons

Another foreign talent? When Spurs squad has just started finding their feet.

A no for me, especially at £25mil!

I’d much prefer we bring in proven strikers from the PL, like Hernandez, Lukaku, Benteke, or even bring back Berbatov (short solution, but not too bad for rest of the season).

  • Mole Man says:

Hasn’t he just been sold to Santos for a fee of two pot noodles?

  • Gavin Brock says:

Sorry, but he had his chance to come, and dished us bigtime.Even though we do need to score more goals I still feel we need to create more clear cut chances for the strikers.

I would suggest AVB sort out his combinations in midfield, because that is where the main problem lies,no creativity, but only defending, and that is not how we will win games or qualify for anything.

  • Pat Barker says:

Not worth bothering with not when there are proven strikers e.g. Loic Remy proved that he can score at this level.

  • Mark. Langton says:

A badly thought out article with not much in the way of factual content.

  • TheBull says:

Allready sold to Santos, shitty research dude.
