KokeDuring the last set of Champions League matches, pictures emerged of David Moyes watching Atletico Madrid’s clash with FC Porto in Spain. Naturally, this set Twitter alight and set forth a barrage of rumours. As The Metro notes, the images that surfaced will have done little to ‘dispel speculation’ linking him to Atletico’s talented midfielder, Koke.

We’ve all seen how Manchester United have struggled for midfield inspiration this season. In fact, the issue with the Red Devil’s midfield dates back to Sir Alex Ferguson’s time at the club. The great Scot tried to solve the issue by bringing in Shinji Kagawa, but the former Bundesliga ace just hasn’t been up to the task.

The Japanese international is one of many players who have disappointed this season. Playing alongside the likes of Ryan Giggs and Marouane Fellaini, he’s struggled to influence the game and often ends up giving the ball away. The midfield just seems to move the ball about too slowly. When Manchester United are at their best, they’re so quick and so direct that they’re impossible to deal with.

But this is a Manchester United side that seems to have been recast in David Moyes’ image. It’s thoroughly underwhelming.

As such, I can’t help but hope that Moyes really was in Spain to watch Koke. He could be just the tonic that Manchester United need.

Atletico Madrid have been extremely impressive this season and a lot of that has been down to their young Spanish play-maker. The 21-year-old is a quick thinker, has plenty of technical ability and a great passing range. He seems to spot the gaps in between defenders quicker than anybody else and he has the skill and the vision to thread the ball through.

At 21-years-old, he’s got lots of potential and is already well on his way to becoming a recognized world class talent. He’s the kind of player that Manchester United should be chasing at this stage in their evolution.

He also wouldn’t break the bank. He’s thought to have a £15m price-tag, which should be well within Manchester United’s financial wheelhouse. Now it’s up to David Moyes to put his negotiation cap on and to start the bidding.

What’s your take? Was David Moyes in Spain to watch Koke? Would the play-maker be a good addition to this Manchester United side?
