Should Arsenal move in for this Premier League ace before it’s too late?

Demba BaThings are going fairly well for Arsenal at the moment. But imagine how much better things could be (or how much easier things could have been), had they purchased another striker during the January transfer window.

The Gunners have soldiered on with Olivier Giroud as their only recognised centre-forward. Yes, Nicklas Bendtner has made a few cameo appearances, but that’s all they’ve been.

Luckily, the big Frenchman has done a good job so far. He works extremely hard, brings others into play and can find the back of the net when necessary. But by the time the 70th minutes rolls by, he always looks absolutely exhausted. It’s only Christmas and the man looks just about conked out.

Things could have been different. Arsenal came close to signing Chelsea striker Demba Ba on deadline day during the summer transfer window. Unfortunately, Jose Mourinho pulled the plug on the deal as he thought Arsenal could well be title-contenders this season. In the end, it looks to have been a smart decision on Mourinho’s part.

Whilst Ba hasn’t set the world alight at Stamford Bridge this season,  I think it’s fair to say that he could have done a job at the Emirates. Despite Fernando Torres continuing to flop on a weekly basis, the Senegalese international just isn’t getting a proper look in with Chelsea. That wouldn’t have been the case had he moved to the Emirates.

He would have been entrusted with more game time and better service from the likes of Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil. His direct running, touch, control and confidence in front of goal could have made a real difference for Arsenal.

In recent times, Ba has spoken about the link to Arsenal and poured cold water on the chance of a future move. Check out these quotes: “People talk a lot about me joining Arsenal. But there has never been an approach from them. There is nothing going on in this regard. Things are OK for me at the moment. It’s working, as the situation is turning around for me here bit by bit. I am getting more time on the pitch as a result of the injuries to our strikers Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres.” (Source: The Mirror)

It sounds like he’s fairly content at Chelsea, but I’m sure he’d jump at the opportunity to play regular football at another top club. I’m sure Jose Mourinho’s position hasn’t changed, but if Arsenal were to offer enough money, then who knows?

The Gunners need another striker. That much is clear. If Demba Ba is still available this January, then it could be something of a no brainer.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal try again to sign Demba Ba?
