Edin DzekoFor Tottenham fans it must be hard to make sense of what happened over the weekend. Having just seen their North London rivals Arsenal get turned over by a rampant Manchester City side, they would have been hoping to pull themselves back into the chase for top four slots with a result against Liverpool.

Unfortunately, Spurs followed the Gunners lead, capitulated massively and ended up losing 5-0. Yes, Paulinho’s red card had an effect on the end result, but Tottenham were never really at the races. Brendan Rodgers boys so thoroughly outclassed Spurs, that there were massive levels of speculation regarding the future of under-fire boss, Andre Villas-Boas.

When Jordan Henderson is running your midfield ragged, you know you’re in trouble. If AVB does get a chance to stick around, he’ll have to find some way of fixing this Spurs side. Much will depend on whether Daniel Levy is willing to loosen his purse strings once more.

Tottenham spent a lot of cash over the summer. Unfortunately, they haven’t got their priorities right, have loaded the midfield and left the striker position light of options.

New addition Roberto Soldado just hasn’t had the effect that he should have done. He doesn’t seem to have adjusted to the speed of the Premier League just yet. So it makes sense that Spurs should move in for a top quality striker who has experience of British football.

This brings me to The Star‘s claim that Spurs are ‘winning the race’ to sign Manchester City’s struggling striker, Edin Dzeko.

The 27-year-old must be growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of opportunities under Manuel Pellegrini. At the moment Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo are running the show at Eastlands and are going to be very difficult to displace. Both are remarkably gifted strikers, who are dangerous in front of goal and boast excellent technical ability.

Edin Dzeko, on the other hand, is more of an out-and-out finisher. With all of Spurs’ tippy-tappy midfielders currently lacking a focal point, I can’t help but feel that Dzeko is exactly what the club needs.

Manchester City won’t want to sell him on the cheap, but given his lack of first team opportunities, may be willing to cut a bargain. Let’s just hope that Daniel Levy is ready and willing to put his money where his mouth is.

Signing Dzeko may not make Spurs title contenders, but it would surely help in the battle for a top four slot.

What’s your take? Should Spurs swoop in for Edin Dzeko?

get him now spur and kick that waste man Adebayor OUT!

Maybe we have a chance of getting him now we are NOT rivals to City. The drop off the pace may make this more likely. A positive spin on our situation for once. Still maybe a wages problem, but a good option for us. Would be good with Soldado if JD leaves for Toronto as is whispered.

Should have sign him since redknapp”s era
